I was just diagnosed yesterday with Lymphocytic Colitis (LC). Everything that I have been reading is that the typical age that LC is discovered is in 5th and 6th decades of life. I am mid way through my 3rd decade of life. Just curious about others, and when they were diagnosed.
Also, I find out tomorrow about other symptoms that don't seem to be related to this. More Gyno issues. Hysterectomy scheduled for the 18th, until I talk with doctor tomorrow. I am curious from the women if hormones imbalances may play a part with LC.

Welcome.......believe me you won't be sorry. There is so much knowledge and information here that I have found it extremely fascinating. I lterally check this site several times a day for new postings and have gone back to many of the older postings just to read. They told me to try the GF diet.....not my doc. My doc said it wouldn't help me becasue I didn't have a Gluten allergy!!! I saw improvements very soon after starting GF. They talked about entocort.....doc put me on pepto treatments for 8 weeks and then wanted to repeat that.....I said no I want entocort. I've seen improvements from entocort in less than a week already. Truly I have already acquired so much respect for the knowledge here and trust you will to.
I was diagnosed with CC the 1st part of July. Started with issues 2 months earlier but took them that long to get doc appts and get into GI doc of course. I just turned 52 a month ago so 5th decade is right on for me.
BTW........Tex has a book out that I have ordered and I'm sure I will be as glued to it as I am this website. You might want to get it too.
(how's that plug Tex???) LOL

I was diagnosed in june of this year. I have collagenous colitis. I was 60 years old and just had a birthday, so 61 now....:-)
I have been on hormone replacement since I was 40 years old, so 20 plus years. I am taking bio identical estrogen and progestrone.
Good luck to you....it is best to be a tortoise rather than the hare, to use an analogy. It takes a while to get your diet regulated and symptoms to settle. Two steps forward one back. I am sure you get my meaning........

A little background on me. I had my gal bladder removed 5 years ago (it was badly diseased and attached to other tissues), and I have been battling diarrhea bats ever since. 3 years ago I went to GI doc and they did a few tests and mainly said it was dumping from my stomach since removal of gal bladder.
After a break down in the gyno office I was tired of hurting. He recommended hysterectomy due to other issues including more fibroids, spotting between menses and pelvis pain and pressure. I had a gut feeling I may have two separate issues so I went to GI doc again. I let them do colonoscopy this time, and wammo…LC. I was shocked. I was waiting for them to tell me that they didn't find anything.
My gyno should be calling me tomorrow to discuss where to go from here. I put up with pain way too long. I have found over the past 5 years foods that don't agree with me. Funny thing is some days I can eat my norm and it is fine. Then the next day…well you know the drill. Potty time. At least I have one answer. Waiting for more info tomorrow.

GI doc has put me on Asacol. 6 (400mg) pills a day and looking at a possibility of 6 months.
That is tough with you being so young. Good luck with your docs.....I have found that with help from people who have gone through what you are now starting to deal with, I would tread very lightly when doctors want to start cutting on you. They do what they do, if you know what I mean....this is in my humble opinion. I think you have it right when you say I had a gut feeling. It may be your gut.

Hi! I don't post often but I was diagnosed at age 29 and I am 31 now. I felt frustrated that I was one of the few younger people with microscopic colitis. I also have Celiac disease which was diagnosed six years before. It is always a good idea to have your doctor check because they can be found together. There seems to be a wide range of ages on here! Colitis has been harder for me to manage than anything else I have. Also I tried lots of other drugs but entocort works the best. Hang in there!
Welcome from Hong Kong. I was in my mid 50s when diagnosed, but the outdated literature says this is mainly a disease for "older women". So you are the wrong age and I am the wrong sex.
Since MC can only be diagnosed from a colonoscopy and it is usually older people that have colonoscopies the data is likely skewed. Many (younger) people with MC who have not had a colonoscopy, and therefore not been diagnosed, will be told they have "IBS".

Welcome! I am 45 now and was diagnosed in February of 2012 with LC and was told I do not "meet the criteria of an older woman" but was diagnosed after a colonoscopy and biopsies showed high white blood cells. I too have hormone issues, am not post menopausal but have not cycled in over a year. I have an endocrinologist and was put on hormone replacement this summer, which has helped with my mood swings. While my endo says the LC caused my reproductive system to shut down, my GI doctor is not convinced this is the case....very frustrating! Alot of members on this forum, including myself, have had success with Entocort/budesonide a relatively mild steroid that you may want to look into. Most members have also had success with diet changes and I am currently GF/DF/SF, no eggs, and no peanuts. You will find a wealth of information and support here!
Welcome Dariqrn, I was diagnosed in my 50's but if you look back in posts here, MC has even been diagnosed in children. It seems to be diagnosed more frequently in younger people these days (maybe they didn't look for it so much as it was "historically" a disease for older women.) As someone who had a hysterectomy at the age of 32, (endometreosis) tread carefully with that. Your body will never be the same. The pain from MC can be horrendous. I would make sure where the source of your pain is coming from before undergoing more surgery. Just my opinion. Deb

FYI, our youngest member (well, actually her mother joined on her behalf) was two and a half years of age when she was diagnosed. Fortunately her mother listened to us instead of her team of doctors (who wanted to prescribe corticosteroids), and Camryn was soon in remission. Her doctors were amazed at her fast remission and asked her mother for permission to do a case study on her, but as far as I'm aware, she declined to allow her daughter to go through all that additional stress. If I haven't lost count, she is now a happy, healthy girl of about six years of age, and still in remission (by diet changes alone).

I was dx with LC when I was 28, I will be 30 in October. I was dx with endometriosis when I was 20 and was on birth control from 14-28 years old. I had horrible periods ever month due to the endometriosis but, the pain and flow got better from a gluten free diet.

I was Dx'd with MC and Chrons when I was 45. I most likely have been dealing with MC since I was about 35 but had not been able to get a proper diagnosis with biopsies until I was 45.

I was also diagnosed at age 35. I'm 38 now. I had mild IBS and lactose intolerance for a decade prior, but my 2 pregnancies and antibiotic use are what seemed to get the autoimmune ball rolling. I developed an autoimmune skin rash after my first pregnancy, and LC a couple years after my second pregnancy. I know of at least a dozen members on this board who are in our age range, and others who are in their late teens and 20's. MC can strike anyone.
Just curious, were you on any meds prior to the onsert of MC? Antibiotics, SSRIs - antidepressants, PPIs for stomach acid issues, NSAIDs such as ibuprofen? They can all lead to MC.
