New Book About Microscopic Colitis

Hi All,

To the best of my knowledge, though there are numerous papers and relatively short research reports and articles devoted to various details of the disease, the only full-length book written specifically about microscopic colitis that has ever been published, is the one published last week (August 27, 2012) by yours truly. Though other diseases are mentioned in the book, mostly for comparison purposes and to establish the relationship of microscopic colitis to celiac disease, other inflammatory bowel diseases, and other autoimmune diseases, the book covers the disease from it's first description in the medical literature, to today, and even beyond, with the inclusion of discussions about the prospects of specific treatments that are currently being researched and developed for possible future use.

Collagenous Colitis was first described in the medical literature about 36 years ago, and lymphocytic colitis was described about 32 years ago. The fact that in all those years, no one has ever written a book about it, clearly illustrates how poorly understood this disease actually is, and how it has been largely ignored because of that lack of understanding. MC is more common that Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and even celiac disease, and yet it receives only a fraction of the attention of any of those other diseases by the media, and in medical circles.

This book covers all of the current medical treatments commonly prescribed to treat the disease, complete with discussions of the general effectiveness of those respective treatments according to the combined experience of all the members of this discussion board. The important differences between food allergies and food sensitivities (as related to MC) are discussed, and there's information on the history of food sensitivities and how they have adversely affected the general health of virtually everyone on this planet since they were introduced into the human diet (in the neolithic period).

Testing and diet development are discussed, along with tips on eating when away from the security of our own kitchen. There's a chapter devoted to ways to deal with the most difficult cases, when nothing seems to work, despite hard work and careful attention to detail.

And finally, the last section of the book describes my own theory of what I believe actually causes most inflammatory bowel diseases and autoimmune diseases to develop, supported by extensive references from existing medical research.

At this site, (Smashwords), once you buy a digital book, you can download it to as many devices as you want, as often as you want, hassle-free. Kindle will allow you to download a book to multiple devices, but re-downloading to the same device can apparently only be done by means of a backup copy. The difference is that Kindle uses DRM (Digital Rights Management), and Smashwords does not.

It took me two years and 3 months to write this book. If you choose to buy a copy, I hope that you find it to be very, very helpful, and that it enables you to get your life back.

Tex, FYI. After all this time, I contacted Amazon and they replaced your original book that I purchased with the updated version. It was so difficult to navigate without page numbers I decided to ask Amazon to replace the book. There were no problems doing so and it was done within a few hours. I'm loving the book all over again. If anyone else had an issue with the original kindle version, they will have no problem getting the newer version

I'm glad to hear that. I couldn't understand why I kept reading that there was no way to do that. Apparently they finally got their ducks in a row, and corrected the problem and/or made their system more user-friendly.

Dear Tex,
I just finished reading your book and I want to thank you for all of the work and time that you put into it. I found out that I have lymphocytic colitis last week after having diarrhea for several months. I also have autoimmune disease of the pancreas for which I went gluten free May 1, 2012. Now that I have read your book I feel hopeful that I will still "have a life" when I get things under control with diet changes.

Hi Sarad,

Welcome to our internet family. Yes, unfortunately most of us also have other autoimmune diseases. Many of us have found that after we remove all of our food sensitivities from our diet, we're not as likely to develop additional autoimmune diseases, and in many cases the symptoms of preexisting autoimmune issues diminish or disappear completely.

I sincerely hope that by applying what you've learned from the book, and the information available here on this website, you will indeed be able to get your life back. Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

Hi Ian,

Parts of the book can be slow to read, because they contain a lot of information (and a lot of references), so you may need to go back and reread parts of some chapters later, but I tried to include as much useful information as I could, to help with understanding and treating the disease.

If you have any questions that aren't answered in the book, or if you would like a clarification of some point, please don't hesitate to ask.

I usually am able to grasp most things straight away but if I get stuck I certainly will yell for help, thanks.

BTW we both have similiar work backgrounds, I was a Mechanic I sat my City & Guuilds in the subject for four years, acheiving 8 Distinctions and 3 Credits. Then onto a BTEC Business studies course which was to do with computing, writing programs, and how computers work etc.

LOL!!! Lesley! Thank you for the laugh and the idea!!! I have bought 3 copies - one for myself, my GP and my consultant! GP has read it and got quite excited! Yet to ask Consultant!!!
