GF Belly Laugh

Post by shekoe »

I peruse the Forum every day but rarely post. Must share the following. I was compiling my GF Shopping List a few minutes ago on my iPhone. In a hurry, as usual, I did not proof until I reached the end. As I read over the list I noted the munchkins that reside within the software converted my entry of "xanthum gum" to "can't hum gum". That is almost as funny as "Norman". Wishing improved health and happiness to all, Sheila K.

I'd like to alert all to the following paper recently posted on celiac.org. "Non-Celiac Wheat Sensivity Diagnosed by Double-Blind Placebo-Controlled Challenge: Exploring a New Clinical Entity" published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology. Tex, I'd love your opinion. I think it finally vindicates many assertions and ideas we Potty People have had for a long time. Sheila K. PS- Purchased and read your book. Well done to a Pathfinder for all of us trying to navigate uncharted territory. The idiot who diagnosed my CC several years ago wanted to send my to Mayo Clinic because my disease was "so rare". PPS- the only reason he even took biopsies was because I fit the profile: a female over the age of 60.

Hi Sheila,

Yep, smartphones are getting to be a bit too helpful, sometimes.

I believe that group of researchers, and others, have known about this issue for years, but it appears that Dr. Fasano (arguably the world's leading celiac researcher), has been trying to suppress information about non-celiac gluten sensitivity for years. I could be wrong about that, since I'm just basing my opinion on circumstantial evidence, but note this article, which was published in a rather obscure medical journal (the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology), over 6 years ago, (why didn't they choose to publish it in the American Journal of Gastroenterology — were they trying to hide it?):
CONCLUSIONS: Based on our results, we concluded that gliadin activates zonulin signaling irrespective of the genetic expression of autoimmunity, leading to increased intestinal permeability to macromolecules.

Note that Dr. Fasano was the author listed last on that publication. Also note that it was published from the School of Medicine at the University of Maryland, where Dr. Fasano is in charge of all celiac research. Notice that one of the authors of that article (A. Carroccio) apparently decided to go back to Italy and was the lead author in the group from the Hospital of Sciacca, in Italy, that published the article that you cited.

Here's another article that illustrates that researchers have known for years about non-celiac gluten sensitivity, but they have hesitated to put a name to it:
Conclusion: The LD cohort differs significantly in terms of HLA type, serology and clinical features, suggesting that the majority of patients with lymphocytic duodenosis do not belong in the spectrum of celiac disease.

It's good to see a post from you again,
Tex

P.S. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I've tried to write a post several times this afternoon, but every time I got going on it, the power went out. The power company finally came out and replaced a transformer on our farm that was apparently struck by lightening early this afternoon, when a little storm rolled through.
:cowboy:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
