Hi All
Have not been here for a couple of days. Tuesday started a new quilt at my Janome club and yesterday went to the craft fair in Brisbane. Very early start as I caught a lift with a friend who works there. Home late as well. Could hardly walk by the end of the day but bought plenty of stuff that I wanted and did some workshops. Came home very tired but happy. I was a bit naughty and took Voltaren for the 2 days previous so that my feet may be able to stand the pace. Only trouble is that they as usual, upset the applecart and have been a bit trotty since. Thank god for Depends and Tena Lady & the like. Have dropped out of the Neighbourhood Watch meeting this morning but am still hoping to get to the VIEW Club a little later. This 3rd Thursday is always very hectic but am just not up to it today. Might just stay home and do some more on my quilt.

Love

Liz

Hi Liz,

We've missed you, the past couple of days. You always seem to set a very full schedule for yourself. Such a hectic pace would wear down a teenager. No wonder you're tired.

I hope you start feeling more like your usual, energetic, self, soon.

Love,
Wayne

Sounds like a fun couple of days! Whats the quilt look like? (or will it look like?). I am actually taking a bit of a break right now from working on the Christmas tree skirt I started last year. Its a red and green log cabin type pattern, that ends up being a star. I am determined to finish it before Christmas this year, which means I've got to try to finish it before I have surgery in 2 weeks!

I've also got a full sized quilt going that I started 9 years ago! That one has a lot of hand work to be done, so I can do that while I recover from surgery.

Rest up.

Hi Katy

It was a fun couple of days. I go back next Tuesday to do the next lesson on this quilt. I will post a pic when I get it done. There are 32 blocks in the central part and the background and borders are also pieced. Can't wait to see it finished.

Here is a pic of the last Kaliedascope quilt that I made. I have actually done 5 of them because other family wanted one too

And another

I have made about 12 quilts so far and I love it. It certainly gets you hooked.

Love to see pics of yours when you finish them. Good luck with your surgery.

Morning Liz,

Your quilts are absolutely GORGEOUS. I have dabbled in quilting but just never carried through with it. The 2 quilts you show are very unique and the receivers of them are very lucky people.

Love, Maggie

Liz, those quilts are gorgeous!

This is the link to the quilt I made Geoff two years ago for Christmas. The "lightest" stripe is actually white and red instead of black and white and it a print of the Boston Red Sox logo...he is a HUGE fan. He like black as a color, but my sense of bright colors forced me into adding a little splash of the red. I love the quilt, but he hates to share it...its very warm. I have an idea for a larger one that we can share. Now I just have to find the time to make it.

Hi Katy and Liz!

The quilts are absolutely gorgeous! I wish I were gifted enough to do something like that.

I have a brand new sewing machine in the closet that I bought to start some projects. Yep, there it still sits! LOL

PS - Liz, you run circles around me on my good day! They say keeping active and busy will make you feel better. Guess I better get off of my arse!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi All

Katy they would not let me look at your quilt on webshots. Maybe it was too busy. Could you post it here maybe. Will be expecting to see pic of your new one soon eh!

I love quilting. Used to wonder about those women who were buying all that fabric just to cut it into little pieces and sew it back together again. :???: Now I know  It is addictive. The one with the black background was made for my almost 17 years old grandson. He has it on his wall behind his bed because he said it was going to be an heirloom and he did not want the dog to get on it.
Mars get that sewing machine out and give it a run. It can be so relaxing.

This is a small one that I use as a topper on my bed.

Oma it would be good if you could have your frame up so you could have something else to occupy you during your recovery from your op.

Love

Liz,

Guess what we're having here this week in addition to the World Series? Yep, you guessed it -- a big quilters' convention. People will be here from everywhere. This isn't the first time it's been held here, but I don't know much about it. Guess you have to travel far and wide to learn how to cut up cloth and sew it back together, huh? Haha!
Think it's being held down in the Convention Center area, and space had become more available since hurricane victims have moved on to housing, etc., but lo and behold, Houston up and wins the World Series this year, so Houston will be hosting their shares of the games here. Just so happens that the ball park is right next to the Convention Center, so lodging filling up fast again.

Perhaps the city will have enough extra taxes to make-up for some of the lost revenue that occurred when conventions were cancelled so that the city could host the city of New Orleans after Katrina. Somehow it just pays to do the right thing!

Anyway, just thought you might want to know that there's a big quilters' convention going on right now. Maybe some day you can come -- they have LOTS of toilets, and the Convention place is so big you could drive a golf cart around to get to all the exhibits and not bump into anything or anyone. I think this is a national event but it might be an international one. Anyway, it would have to be big to be in that place if it's at Brown Convention Center.

By the way, i love the lap quilt idea. The church that Mom's a member of brought her a lovely lap quilt that has her name and a little tribute beautifully embroidered in the center. The group that does the handiwork on these has a neat, catchy little name, but now that I need to remember the name to tell you, I can't remember! Think my brain is an heirloom! Ha!

Kate, perhaps I should hire you to work on a RAINBOW quilt for the Stros? Shucks, guess you're too young to remember those tacky rainbow uniforms, aren't you? They always get voted the tackiest AND the favorite...funny! People still wear them, and they can still be found in some places brand new -- it's just a sentimental thing cause they were worn when the Astrodome was new, and haven't been worn in a long time now.

By the way, the Astrodome opened in 1965, the year I started college, but then I graduated early...realllllly! Forget how long Minute Maid's been opened?? Hmm, there I go again!

OK, another round of orange juice on me!
Yours, Luce

Hi Lucy

I know about the Quilt convention in Huston. It is world renowned. The lady who runs our local Janome store often goes there. I think it is held annually and it is something of an honour to display your quilt there.

You are right about cutting up the fabric and sewing it all back together again  I used to think it was a bit wierd too until I started doing it myself. It is like a disease that you can't control. You just have to have more and more fabric so that you can sit and look at it and dream of what you can make with it. Then comes the fun part, the cutting into little pieces and admiring your handiwork once you have put it all back together again.  Luuuuuuve it.

Sound as though Huston is going to be a very busy place.

Love

Liz
