Best Probiotic

Post by Deb »

My son is home, recovering from a crushed ankle and foot. He had IV antibiotics while in the hospital. If you were to recommend a good probiotic for someone with no apparent food intolerances, what would be your choice? He is taking 10,000 IU of Vitamin D. Thanks, Deb

Best Probiotic

Post by gluten »

Hi, I used three differnet types of probiotics. I-Flora by Sedona Labs, good price online and does not need to refrigerated. It worked for me to control some of the symtoms of MC. VSL-No3, expensive and needs to be refrigerated and has 125 billion cells per capsule. Prices range from $52 to $85 for sixty capsules. I changed becaue the VSL-No3 had more cells than the I-Flora. Now, I take Primal Defense Ultra by Garden of Life, it was developed by a man who had severe Crohn"s disease. It has only 15 billion cells that are specfic for G.I issues. I researched all the different ingredients. I also will add the VSL-No3 when I have any G.I. issues. Jon

I take 1 Culturelle every day. I am not sure it works miracles but it surely doesn't hurt.

I use Culturelle also. I recently stopped taking it to see if there is a difference. So far, I'm the same.

I'm using Culturelle also. You can pick it up locally. I refrigerate it when I get it home. I usually take one a day but I've taken 3 or 4 a day also. Hope your son feels better! Brandy

I use Culturelle which I buy at The Vitamin Shoppe for about $15. My Vitamin Shoppe matches the price online. I have no idea if it's helping, but it doesn't cause problems.

Pro-Boulardi is what my ND recommended when I was first dx/w/MC. I don't know how it differs from other pro-biotics, but it's been good for me.
Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.

Thanks for the responses. I've ordered the Culturelle. Do you refrigerate it?

I use Friendly Flora (ProCap-Andrew Lessman). It works better for me because it has *PRE*biotics as well as *PRO*biotics. Probiotics alone never did anything for me. I only use it if I'm in a flare.
Also have sleep apnea

@Stanz...don't know if you are going to see this, but did the Pro-Boulardii help the D any. I have heard good things about S. Boulardii when it comes to D but haven't met or known anyone that has taken it till now. Do you still take it and if so, how much do you take a day?

Thanks,
Terri

Terri,
When I first was dx/w/MC I knew I wouldn't take steroids. I worked with my ND and started with ProBoulardi (Metagenix) 1x/day, another probiotic 2x/day and L-Glutamine, I think it was 2 rounded tsp/2x/day. Somewhere on here I posted what I called "My Protocol". I had already been GF for 4 months. My D stopped within a month of my beginning this regimen. I don't take any of this anymore unless I get glutened or am in a flare.

I stopped taking the Loperamide fairly quickly, as it made me feel "buzzed" all the time, like my brain was itching.

Connie,

Thanks so much for the link to your story! I think it's amazing how you were able to go into remission without any drugs. I'm currently doing the Pepto treatment and doing very well on that. Before Pepto I was having WD 1 to 3 times a day....now it's all Norm thanks to the Pink pill. I'm doing DF and GF right now....will probably need to tweak more as I can't tell when I react to something right now as my wonderful pink pill keeps me symptomless.

I will have to try the Glutamine and the Probiotics and see how that goes as I can't stay on Pepto forever. (sigh) I love to hear success stories like yours.....gives me hope. Thanks again!

Terri, correction - it was the Pepto that gave me the buzz, not the Loperamide. I know lots of people have had good results with Pepto, but many have had my reaction, so I'm glad to hear it's working for you, we're all different. I'm also one of the ones who can now have dairy.
