Hi - I tried doing a search on diverticulitis but didn't find the answer I was looking for.
I am wondering if diverticulitis/diverticulosis is associated with MC.
Any comments are appreciated.
Paula

Hi Paula,
I don't recall that I mentioned it in the book, (but I could be wrong — my memory certainly isn't perfect).
It's difficult to say that diverticulitis is directly associated with MC, but interestingly, it presents with the same type of inflammation pattern as LC, namely an increase in the number of mast cells, and increased lymphocytic infiltration. Of course, this is the same inflammation pattern that initiates celiac disease, and the other IBDs also, except that with the other IBDs, eosinophils are also present in large numbers.

You're most welcome,

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
The pain from diverticulosis was the second thing that finally persuaded me to have my first colonoscopy four years ago.
I
have just recently been having that pain again and attribute it to not being able to have much fiber.
