Hi there Wayne et al,
Noticed, maybe last night, that this site held the second page's top two positions on the webtv search thingie I have. How's it doing on the search engines the rest of you may have checked out lately?
This would have to mean that people are lerking at a fairly good clip, wouldn't it?
I believe that it's a wonderful site, but it would be nice if there were more newbies asking questions. That way, they could get support if they needed it, or just tell us about their own experiences with diet or medication, or otherwise. There is so much collective wisdom in this group!
I was thinking just today how much I missed by being sick all those years, and knowing that it didn't have to be if I'd just had the knowledge I have now. I couldn't help but grieve a little over that, despite being sooo happy these last couple of years due to the excellent results I've had with removal of a few foods. Unbelievable even yet!!
Do any of the rest of you who've been asymptomatic now for a while ever grieve over the time you lost, and all that agony?
Took me a while to get to that point, but think it's to be expected. Funny how we can have opposite emotions -- sadness for something in the past, while happy in the moment. Hmm. Sounds like psychobabble, I know, but...
Yours, Luce

If I continue to do better on the Entocort EC I do wonder why I waited so long to try it! At least the doctor didn't drop me for being stubborn:) All of the other docs dropped me for wanting to try diet first or not agreeing with their diagnosis. At least I have a decent doctor now:) Heaven knows there aren't that many more doctors I could try...LOL

grannyh,
I'm talking about years and years of losses from being very sick and isolated in it,, but don't want to go into all that right now.
I think that your situatition was unusual in that you were apparently asymptomatic before the colon prep. Also, it's hard to evaluate a dietary program when one's necessary medication (for cholestrol lowering) is also known to reduce or eliminate the diarrheal symptom. You were just between a rock and a hard place. This may be hindsight, but it would've speed you right along had you spent the money testing your stool right away instead of on all the co-pays and medication, but I can understand why you were reluctant to do so, particularly with all the conflicting information you were getting at that time. I must admit that it was a shear leap of faith for me to try the tests, and if I hadn't had a dramatic, obvious relief from the ankle swelling, in particular, I'm not so sure I'd have parted with my $$ either. I'm not saying that we can be 100 percent sure you don't have food sensitivities, however.
I need to make another post to Polly for this one. Just got to thinking that if celiacs and we autoimmunies have higher zonulin levels than normals, wouldn't the test for zonulin be a good screening test? I wonder where one can get that test, and if it's very expensive at this point in time?? I'm thinking that perhaps it would be covered by insurance, but maybe not -- just depends on whether or not the research has been sufficiently published. Sometimes ya have to convince the insurance companies with research studies, etc., and it's just not worth the time.
Glad you're doing better, and hope it continues. I think it will, and maybe at least you can be on the lowest dose after a while, and that will relieve your worries concerning having to be on medication.
By the way, is this doc going to insist you repeat colonoscopy in a certain no. of years to see if the M.C.'s gone away. I think there are some who advocate giving less of a prep to prevent things like this. I'm sure you don't want another, but maybe you can face that issue when the time comes, right? It may be more of an issue if you have family history of colon cancer or some other more threatening type of IBD symptoms.
Yours, Luce
