My insurance won’t cover Entocort or Budesonide in 2013

Post by wonderwoman »

My husband and I are both retired and have Cigna Medicare Select Plus RX . An HMO. Yesterday we received a large packet of information regarding the plan for 2013. Some fees went up and others went down. In looking over the 2013 Formulary (list of covered drugs) I discovered both Entocort and Budesonide are not on the list. Should I need the drug next year I will need to order from Canada or India. This year I was paying $5. for 90 capsules.

I mention this so you will check your insurance coverage for next year to see if these drugs will still be available to you.

In January my GI doctor reluctantly gave me a Rx for Budesonide that could be filled 4 times. I didn’t need it then as I was finishing up some I had gotten from Canada, but had it filled three times during the year. Not because I needed it but just to have it available. I currently have 3 1/2 containers of 90 Entocort 3mg. capsules left. I still have one refill left and will get that filled also before the end of the year. For $5. why not. Who knows how I will be doing next week, next month, or next year.

I am currently not taking any Entocort. Have been off 5 weeks so far. Let’s see if I can get past 8 weeks. Twice before I got to 8 weeks and then the D returned. However I am on the Paleo diet now without eggs and no nightshades, chicken or beef.

I am still taking one Loratadine (antihistamine) a day. I thought I would need to take this indefinitely but if I remember correctly, Polly only took it for about a week. I don’t think she is taking it any more. That surprised me. If anyone else tried an antihistamine are you still taking it or how long did you take it. I’ve been on for about 6 weeks.

I am so sorry to hear your insurance changed Charlotte. I know I wouldn't be able to afford mine without my insurance. I wish I had something more helpful to say.

I'm interested in the antihistamine info too, I've been taking either Allegra or Zyrtec all summer. It helps my inceasing allergies but not sure if it does any more than that.
