overly belching

Post by Julie »

Hi,

I have a question about belching. I have a hiatus hernia and LC. I can't seem to stop belching. I make this crazy sound that comes out of my mouth. Sometimes it goes so loud, that everyone at work just stares at me as if I were an alien.

Do you guys have this to? What can you do about it? I've tried louds of things (diet, not drinking coffie, not drinking soda, no dairy products, gluten-free diet, ...) I still have it a lot (a lot means daily and almost every querter of an hour, sometimes even every minute).

Sometimes, it's embarassing. Especially when I'm at a meeting.

Do I have it because of LC? Is it yet another annoying symptom of my disease?

What are your expierences with belching?

Thanks, Julie

Julie,

Most of us have the opposite problem when we're having a reaction — we can't belch, and because of that problem, the gas pressure and bloating continues to build up until it becomes very uncomfortable. In my case not being able to belch when I needed to, often caused nausea. Many days, I would have given almost anything to be able to belch.

But I can certainly see how uncontrollable belching can also be a problem, in public.

Hi,

it's not really burping. It's an upcoming sound from my intestines and it causes nausea for me. Sometimes, I even taste my food in my throat. My doctor told me that it was because of gases in the intestines.

It's the strangest sound, I sound like a toad or a frog. haha Maybe I should live in a pond.

Hi Julie,
I too have this belching problem and have a horrible taste in my mouth @ all times. My GI did an endoscopy and feels like there's something more than MC going on, especially since this is a new thing. Have you tried any of the OTC acid reducers, like Zantac? That helps a little bit. I have it more so after I eat and 1-2 hours after, so it sounds like not as much as you.

I have never been able to burp and occasionally have an extreme build up of trapped gas , especially if I drink a glass of wine and eat heavy food for dinner. But along with the pressure I often get what I call a throat growl that feels like the gas trying to come up and can't. People close to me can hear it and it is generally relieved when I lie down. Weird. I once told the pcp about it and he had nothing to offer. I don't regurgitate food or have a bad mouth taste and it is not helped by antacids.

Hi Everybody,

Christine: that is exactly the sound I make. The difference is, in my case, it goes so loud that the whole room almost hears it. Cathyme, I do take Nexiam (for acid problems, hiatus hernia and reflux) but it doens't seem to relief that problem. And the taste in my moutgh is at times horrid.

I was just curious to know if I was the only one, I guess I'm not.

My GI told me that it is gas that is stuck in my intestines. I know someone with Crohn's disease and she doesn't have that problem. That's why I wanted to hear it from you all, just to see if it was a symptom of LC or something else.

Thanks for your responses everybody.

Hi, I found that when I do not keep my mouth closed when chewing I would belch and have excess gas. So now, I am conscious about keeping my mouth closed and it has reduced belching and the amount of gas. When air gets into the stomach it only has two ways out up or down Jon

Same here Julie. I just assumed it was excess acid. I so worry about what my breath must smell like as the taste is just nasty and I frequently brush my teeth. My dh makes fun of the noises that come out of me! If it's not one end, it's the other, LOL!!

Hi Cathyme and everyone else,

I know, I just worry about my breathe all the time. Sometimes, I don't even want to kiss my boyfriend because I'm so ashamed. He says that it's not that bad but I'm not convinced.

I have to go see a professor specialised in MC, maybe he can help me with this embarrassing problem. But hey, as long as the pain, the nauseau, ... goes away, I'm happy.

I'll write an update when I'll see the professor. I'll see him on 8 October.

Greetings

Julie

I have hiatus hernia, gerd and do have problems with gas and belching.

the belching heart burn only tends to happen during the day if i rush eating my lunch to get to a meeting etc.

the product i use is a potassium, magneisium, glycine powder. it is called gastric buffer
30mls of water, teaspoon of powder, it all settles down within 10 mins.

(it is not just for medical type things atheletes use it to stop nausea when doing hard core excercise)

Ever since I had my gallbladder removed I have burped and belched up a storm. When it really bothers me, I take 2 Gas X and that helps a bit. The CC has only exacerbated the problem.
Occasionally I will get that foul tasting, from the intestine, gross belch. It is always as a result of over eating.
It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or drink, the burping/belching gets worse as the day goes on. Again, at least we are not alone.

HI Sheila,

I have it all day long, even when I haven' eaten or drank anything. It's so strange. I hope to have more news about it tomorrow when I see my GI.

Good luck!

Hi everybody,

update from GI on belching: My GI told me that the belching comes from the abdomen. The yeast in the abdomen is to high and thus it exits through the mouth. :???:

The taste is normal. You can avoid the belching a little bit by diet (avoiding dairy products, products with gas such as soda, ...) but I'm afraid it won't stop it entirely. It is a typical symptom that people have when they have problems in the colon and intestines.

I hope this helps a bit.

greetings and good luck,

I have painful belching and gas in my stomach and intestines it's gotten worse today and last night so that I could not fall asleep for a few hours. It happens after I eat about an hour or two later. It made me so nauseous and I also had cramping in colon which I hope is just gas. It made me feel like I had to go the bathroom but nothing happens now that I've drank hot water I don't feel as horrible. There is a normal belching after you eat for folks like us and then there is painful stops you in your tracks gas n belching. The painful belching is actually making my reflux worse. I had terrible reflux and burning in my tummy for nine days straight and then I started eating yellow potatoes (1/2 c per meal with my turkey and broth) and I did not have any acid anywhere Wednesday to Saturday. Then yesterday it started again and came back after physical therapy when I ate a late lunch. Between the burning and the belching it doesn't make you want to eat. Hoping this calms down and I have a very normal you know what in the morning like I've had since Thursday. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

I'm going to try to be more conscious about chewing with my mouth closed and not doing too much deep breathing with my meditations. I think it's the food digesting but maybe made worse by those other things. No idea.

It seems one thing gets better and then something else gets worse. Hoping for a decent night sleep tonight! 🍀🍀🍀🍀
