I just bought a Vita mix yesterday haven't opened the box. Is it possible to drink blended greens, fruit, extra with the pulp included if you have this illness?

Darlene,

Welcome! I see you have posted a number of questions regarding MC. Let me be frank and cut to the chase. You will not find any better advice, info, friends, etc. than right here. In fact, I would take everything Tex has to say about MC as gospel. His skill, understanding, and knowledge of MC is truly superior to anyone and that includes doctors!! His book is the first thing you should get, the second is reading, reading, and more reading of the info on this site. It will take hours, days, even, but it will be the best time you have ever spent if you are intent on getting this MC under control.

Good to have you aboard!

PS. Forget about the Vitamix right now. Greens, fruit, and pulp are not your friends. A whole new way of eating is awaiting you. First and foremost is the elimination of gluten and fiber.

Darlene, I think Mandy's advice is good. Don't try any kind of fiber when you're trying to heal. I have a VitaMix and I honestly don't know if it will process the food enough to make fiber not an issue. As you heal you can start trying foods but when you're in a flare it's best to avoid them. That being said, a VitaMix is a wonderful machine. Hopefully you'll get a lot of use out of it down the road.

Welcome Darlene..........this is the place to go. I found that out myself about 2 months ago and my life has turned completely around. Read read read..............there is so much information here that I can honestly say I havene't even gotten through it all. They've been here for years and they by far know way more than I ever got out of my GI doc. Take their advice and good luck with your healing. It does take some time but you will feel better.

thanks

Hello Darlene and welcome to the group form New Hampshire.

I can see you posted several good questions today.

Most of us after diagnosis look for ways to manage and even 'cure' this condition. First remember this condition usually lasts for life, but can be brought into remmision. For most us us to reach remmision, addressing diet is KEY. Probably 98% of us react to gluten and consuming anything with gluten keeps the D reoccurring, next something like 75% of us react to soy and finally a lower number of us react to dairy product.

I would also carefully avoid ALL raw fruits and veggies for a good while until things have settled down, this includes the use of the juicer as what your avoiding is the harder to digest raw elements of the foods for a while. Additionally watch out for citrus fruits due to their acidic nature. This paragraph is addressing the fact that your GI system is inflamed and VERY sensitive right now and the raw nature of veggies and fruits can be irritating....bottom line well cooked veggies and fruits for a while.

To get started the Entocort, steroids kick starts the remmision but that has to be in conjunction with dietary changes as well as a review of certain meds like PPIs and certain antidepressants which can aggrevate MC (either LC or CC). Usually we need a good 8 months or more to really help...again in conjunction with a diet that avoids foods you are sensitive to.

To figure out what foods may be causing you issues, I would initially recommend the testing by Enterolab which will help you accurately identify the foods that are causing issues.

Your next question I noted was "on the go" here it can be a minefield, before adventuring out to restaurants first figure out what foods to avoid....hence the Enterolab testing. It's not easy eating out, but it's not impossible either, but you have to know what to avoid first. This especially includes factory are packaged foods as they can and often do include a number of troubling ingredients.

I know this is a lot....just remember diet and meds in conjunction with testing is the best to achieve remission and to start feeling better.

Take care I hope you start feeling better soon
Joe
