Hi Joe and Happy Belated Birthday! Sorry about the water heater and it flushing your day.

It is a butterfly bush and they do great mostly anywhere (Budleia). However, plant it out in the open and you won't have to worry about continuous cutback. They can get quite large if up against the house. They really do attract a world of butterflies, moths and hummingbirds.
