Edit Wikipedia Microscopic Colitis

Post by ant »

Dear Friends,

I recently looked at the Microscopic Colitis page on Wikipedia. I image it is the first page anyone DXed with MC goes to.

Obviously, there are some inaccuracies on the page (see below). e.g. LC no just CC responds well to budesonide and there is no mention of diet treatments.
Treatment

No single treatment is accepted as the standard, and measuring response is difficult. Often a trial of anti-diarrhoeals is followed by anti-inflammatory drugs.

Lymphocytic colitis is thought to respond well to bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) and mesalazine and collagenous colitis to respond well to budesonide.[1]

Prognosis

The prognosis for lymphocytic colitis and collagenous colitis is good, and both conditions are considered to be benign.[2] The majority of people afflicted with the conditions recover from their diarrhea, and their histological abnormalities resolve.[1]

I am not an expert at these things, but should we try and edit the page to bring it up to date/make it more balanced, backed up by other verifiable and reliable published sources.

Best, Ant

I've seen the issues the thyroid people have had trying to edit a thyroid site to include natural desiccated thyroid. The person who maintains control of the site obviously doesn't believe in it and regularly deletes their inclusions. I wouldn't be surprised if we faced the same difficulties. Deb

I really doubt that any of us would be able to persuade the wiki police to allow us to insert any language that's clearly contrary to the consensus of opinion of mainstream medicine. I could be wrong, but Wikipedia is so big now, that it's pretty much of a mainstream phenomenon.

That's one of the reasons why I wrote the book. If no one else will endorse this approach, then we have to promote it ourselves. I'm currently in the process of setting up a website using the old microscopiccolitis.org domain to serve as a portal, not only for this discussion board, but also as a starting place where people can learn the basic facts about MC, presented from a realistic viewpoint, and from there they can follow links in whatever direction they care to go, whether it's to articles discussing the latest cutting edge research, or whatever. Maybe eventually, we'll have more clout.

Tex
:iagree: Totally

lets go the path of least resistance for maximum outcome.
and as we well know, when what the Specialists and doctors recommend and/or the meds dont work so well, people start googling and looking for the answers and find us

(I did ponder if it was worth using aussie persuasion on fellow aussie wiki founder julian assange to listen to us, he is a bit busy with extradicition proceedings and being under house arrest etc )

Tex,

So you did buy the microscopiccolitis.org domain name? I think your idea is a good one.

Hi Gloria,

Yes, but unfortunately Andy lost the database, so all I got was the name. :sigh:

Tex,
I created a website with a low-cost hosting company and it was very easy. So many professional looking off the shelf designs to choose from. Can't wait for us to have a more prominent web presence!
