vit B
had loads of stress last week, lots of different things, just coped but then a phone call to say the ministry of agriculture were coming in 2 days to do a full farm inspection, some new directive by the EU, told they could close us down if we failed so worked and worried like crazy for the two days, we grow strawberries for 5 months of the year and are seemingly classed as F.O.B. primary food producers, ie , no processing, field, to mouth, well my bowel complied and we passed with a few modifications but the next day!!!!!!!!!!!!really bad PAIN and D. I am slowly improving, taking 3mg endocort a day again, annoyed about that, D has abbated still have pain mostly lower left, diverticulitis joining in the gut party, my question is should I be taking vit B to help me cope with stress, if so should it be 3 6 12 or a combo, advise please for someone who cant deal with worry, yes everyone says there is no point in worrying as it dosnt change anything, trouble is it changes my bowel!!!!!Beni
Hi Beni,
It sounds as though the stress has really been a problem, but hopefully now that the worst is past, you'll be able to return to normal. Have you tried an antihistamine to see if it might help?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Stress causes mast cell degranulation, which leads to the release of histamines, cytokines, and other inflammatory mediators. (The references for that are in the book). Many of us can reduce the generation of new inflammation by preventing the histamines that are released from completing their normal inflammatory cycle.
The "B" vitamins might help, but the response will probably be slower. I've never tried to use them for that purpose. Maybe someone else has some experience with that.

Hi Nancy,
Yes, we all respond differently to various medications, and beyond that, some of us get more benefit from H2 type antihistamines, while others can't tolerate H2 antihistamines and do better with H1 antihistamines. In my own situation, Claritin doesn't seem to help me at all, but Allegra does fairly well. Benadryl seems to help most people, but it's a relatively old antihistamine, so it tends to cause drowsiness.
