Thanks Connie,

I've added a section for NDs.

Wish I could recommend my GI but unfortunately he understands little. I can't wait to see your list once you've compiled it because maybe there will be someone listed in my city and I can switch doctors.

Cory,

The lists are here and here. The first list is for treating MC, and the second list is for treating mast cell issues. The mast cell list contains the contact information of an allergist your city who is said to be up to speed on mast cell issues in the digestive system, but remember, he's not a GI specialist — he's an allergist.

Thanks Tex,
I see the doctor you mean and he is located not far for me to travel. I will call and see if he takes Blue Cross Blue Shield. This list is so helpful. I am always grateful for the work you do for this site. You are always serving so selflessly and yet I know you are a busy person with harvest etc.

Tex, please point me to the list. I am in a quandary. I am going away at the beginning of next month, and, coincidentally, now is the medicare registration period. I can change my plan.

My problem is that I don't have time to establish new medical relationships before I leave. I need to get meds to take with me, and letters for the airlines.

Kaiser has been (generally) good to me, and has features I like, but since I developed MC, I have really been unhappy. I get the distinct impression from my PCP that they are treating me like a sort of a nuisance patient. There is no one for me to move to re: MC. I changed my GI, and that's it.
I would LOVE to find a GI and a PCP who would work with me and enterolab to figure out what is not allowing me to heal. How I can get my life under control.
I would also love to find a way to get to a plan that would allow me to try non traditional treatments.

Blue Shield has lists of doctors, but I don't know any of them.

Hi Lesley,

Here are the lists, but unfortunately, I don't see any listings for your area. The closest would probably be Dr. Duane Webb
at the Vancouver Clinic (in Washington). The next closest, Dr. Scot Lewey, only accepts patients who are residents of the state of Colorado. I can understand how he might need to limit his practice, since he's arguably the best doctor for treating food sensitivities in the nation, possibly in the entire world, and he's also knowledgeable about mast cell issues connected with GI issues. Most of the doctors on the list are on the opposite side of the country.

Here's the list for MC:

And here's the list for MC with mast cell issues:

I agree with you that one of the biggest problems with Kaiser is getting stuck with a doctor who is not helpful, and not having the option to find a doctor who is helpful.

I can change my doctors, but, having done that I am still having trouble with them. They are treating me as a complainer and a nuisance, and really upsetting me.
My biggest problem is time.

Are you also with Kaiser?

Thanks Tex!

That's why I added
and not having the option to find a doctor who is helpful.
No, I would be afraid to sign up with Kaiser. I've heard too many complaints about them. :sigh:

I'm very recently diagnosed by my GI doctor, who I think is pretty awesome. Her name is Dr. Jenifer Lehrer and she is with Gastrointestinal Specialists, Inc. in Philadelphia PA

Hi Leni,

The big question is, "Does Dr. Lehrer recognize that food sensitivities need to be addressed when treating MC?"

Thanks,

Ted, yes she does and actually seems to favor treating it in a holistic way rather than with medication when possible. So far my symptoms are all but non-existent since going gluten free. She actually seems to listen to me, which is such a relief.

Great! I'm adding her to the list. Our list is slowly growing, and slowly beginning to cover more areas.

Many thanks for the tip,

You're welcome, Tex. I think it's wonderful that you are compiling this list. I just got lucky with her and her associates. It seems like many people have a problem finding a good GI doctor.

Hi Ian,

I'm sorry that you're having problems with your health care system. Such problems seem to be world-wide regarding the treatment of this disease, and most of us have similar problems here in the States, also.

Unfortunately we don't get many recommendations from the UK, so we have only 3 listings, one in London and two in Ireland. You can see their contact information at the following link. Scroll down the page there, to see the UK section. Because of the way that the NHS works, the listings are for hospitals, rather than for individual physicians.
