Lock jaw and an itchy head...

Post by genealogy-janet »

Ha ha ha! What's so funny?

Two dozen potatoes cool overnight. I plan to peel their jackets to make a double batch of cheesey potatoes for tomarrow's funeral (an elderly neighbor). Both hubby and I are obligated at 10 am, noon, and 1 pm; have no idea what we'll do with the kids. Too much going on...

Here's a query for you: I had a R lower wisdom tooth filling replaced last week. Ever since, I've had transient R upper (TMJ?) pain. Esp. noticeable when needing to open mouth to eat. Could this be the early signs of lockjaw? Perhaps my body is trying to tell me to go on a diet?

Next: My scalp is causing me to want to sit on my fingers. You know how it feels when you try not to scratch mosquito bites. I have never had this one before, either, but NTL it's there. Many itchy bumps under this thick head of hair. If only I could see them. It makes me wonder if I should add one more thing to an already too busy schedule---a visit to a derm Doc. UGHHH!!!

I'm sure that some of you out there have had similar issues. I figure that with time these all-too-weird health concerns will play out only to be greeted with something else.

So, should I bother having someone take a look? Wish it was something as simple as headlice and a sore jaw from keeping my mouth stretched open. But, the heart says it's prob. some weird fibromyalgic autoimmune over-the-hill gift that will eventually morph into yet another odd discomfort.

What think ye of this head itch and TMJ pain?

Any comments will be appreciated, Janet

Morning Janet,

My guess on the jaw is that it is a residual effect from having the filling done. Back teeth work by a dentist put an incredible amount of pressure on the jaw (my experience having suffered from TMJ for years). And if there is a hint of a food sensitivity there...so many of us suffer aches and pains from the intolerance, and (again, my experience) is that something hurts worse if its tugging on already sore muscles, tendons, etc.

Of course if you recently got cut by a nail or the like, or were doing lots of gardening with cuts exposed, and are not up to date on your tetnus shot, go see your doc.

As for the scalp, I also have a lot of problems with dry scalp. We have to be careful of head lice in our house because the kids' cousins often have it, and suprise, suprise, then tend to get it after prolonged exposure to the cousins (like sleep overs). But mine is really just dry scalp. I know I get itchy skin when I eat my intolerance. But then again, it could be related to the slightly drier fall air (despite the amount of rain we've had lately...and we are to get hit again tonight and tomorrow with a nor'easter...Adirondacks are likely going to get snow).

Good morning Janet,

I tend to agree about the teeth - holding the jaw open for extended periods of time and then having someone in there pulling and tugging will make the jaw hurt for quite a while. If it continues the next few days, I would call the dentist and see if he/she is concerned.

As for the itchy scalp - that's probably all it is. Head lice is NO FUN - my kids used to get it when they were in school or when they were around a particular set of cousins (like Katy's). Most generally it is a dry scalp from the weather, lack of a good rinsing or something along those lines. Some hair products, if not rinsed appropriately will case flaking and itching.

Good luck with both!

Hi Janet,

I agree wiyh what's already been said. TMJ and skin rashes are commonly linked with MC.
