Any others had shingles

Post by cjbndtsn »

INtersting topic came up for discussion tonight. Comment was made that I had shingles at such a young age (44). They wondered if that has any correlation to me getting MC. Anyone else already experienced those lovely shingles???

thanks

Yes, I got shingles several years ago when I was in my early 40's. I often wondered if there was a connection to LC. I had never been sick a day of my life and that really was incredibly painful. I had them along my bra line on my back.

Cathy,

Anyone who has had chickenpox has an elevated risk of developing shingles, especially if they take an immune system suppressant. Corticosteroids have an immune system suppressing effect, especially with long term use, so I would recommend a shingles vaccine for anyone who plans to take either an immune system suppressant or a corticosteroid (on an extended schedule), if they had chickenpox as a child (or shingles as an adult). It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Cathy,

My first episode with shingles was when I was 38 years old. I had four more episodes after that over a 4 year span. My doctor did give me the shingles vacine after the 5th time, he was not sure if it would work since I had shingles previously. I did have to get approval from the insurance company at that time if was recommended for people over 60. Since then I have not had another episode. My shingles always starts at the corner of eye which causes extreme pain, buring and rash. Thankfully the shingles never made it far enough to effect my vision.

Had shingles this year and anything that you have heard about the pain is absolutely true. Horrible. Got the vaccine after they were gone for 4 weeks. They lasted 4+ months for me.

Love, Maggie
