Hi everyone - I originally posted here when my daughter was diagnosed with LC at the age of 2. Camryn continues to do awesome on her very strict gluten free diet. She is in 1st grade now and she grows so quickly I never know exactly what size to buy her!
Anyhow, I have a 17 month old named Kayla. Kayla has a milk and soy protein allergy (much like Camryn did, but she grew out of it at 11 months). About 2 months ago she developed an anal fissure and she has been on miralax 2x's a day and mineral oil 2x's a day. She screams bloody murder every time she has a bowel movement. Sometimes she would scream up to a 1/2 hour after she went. She has vomited a few times and had watery diarrhea few times. We have been taking her to the same pediatric GI Dr that Camryn sees. She will be scheduled for an endoscopy/colonoscopy probably at the end of this week. They think Kayla may also have LC, but they really don't know since this is so rare in children. Kayla does eat gluten, but no milk or soy products of any kind. I'm really nervous about her procedure, much like I was about Camryn's scope.
On a side note, my 5 year old son Logan, who has not had any GI problems in the past is now having intermittent diarrhea. He gets it about every other day for a month....he is the next to see the Dr.

Thank you for the update. That's great news that Camryn is still doing so well, but yes, that's very concerning that both of your youngest are having GI problems. They are very fortunate to have a mother who knows what to do. Most kids in that situation don't have that advantage.
Please keep us posted, and I hope that Kayla's doctors have learned a lot from you, so that they will also know what to do to optimize her care.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

You can add me to your mommy club. My kids, ages 8 and 5, have worsening GI trouble (mentioned in my post about my son's lactose intolerance). My daughter is allergic to ALL legumes, possibly a cross-reaction to tree pollen, but I'm getting tired of the guessing game, and may take her for more testing soon.
Makes me wonder if I passed on bad genes or bad GI flora during birth, or whether this is happening to kids all over the place, and some other environmental factor is to blame. Where I live there are TONS of kids with food allergies!

Well, that's definitely good news on the biopsies — not so much on the reflux and fissures. I surely hope the doctors can get those issues resolved, and soon.

Glad that Camryn is doing well. Your poor daughter Kayla-how absolutely awful this must be...glad that @ least the biopsies were negative.
