Coriolus Versicolor for inflammatory/autoimmune conditions

Post by Marie »

I know there are plenty of supplements out there with anti-inflammatory properties and this is likely just another to add to the bag. What I found interesting about this one is the growing amount of research indicating its potential capabilities. It's known as turkey tail mushroom and has been used in eastern cultures for a long time in traditional medicine. Currently it's mainly recognized as a supplemental treatment for cancer but it seems to have a positive effect on many other inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, primarily through the modulation of T helper cells and cytokines. Research seems to focus on the polysaccharide peptide (PSP) found within the mushroom.

There's a testimonial video (worth noting its posted by the company that manufactures the supplement) from a guy (Peter French) who claims it healed his ulcerative colitis. Don't know how much stock to put in that but I am interested in some of the research that I feel is a little more reliable.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20663037 (homeostasis of human lymphocytes)
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21796702 (suppresses IBD in mice by inhibiting cytokines)

I'll probably order some; heck it's worth a try.

You're welcome! I understand about being willing to try just about anything. I'd do a handstand every day at noon if that would work. I'm thinking it could be worth it. Keep me posted and vice-a-versa, I'll let you know my thoughts/ response to it. Take care.
