Endocort side effects or is it MC? re nausea and jitters

Post by Camie »

I take my endocort with breakfast. More than an hour or so later I am overcome with nausea. Several times I have had to abandon the grocery store with a half full cart of groceries because I cannot bare the sight or smell of food. I am past the age of being pregnant! lol. This as occuured on high doses of endorcort and low doses ( as I tried to wean off of Endocort) Is this endocort or MC? It happens when I am gluten free.

After the nausea subsides.......then its the jitters. I have been embarressed by my hand tremors while checking out in a store trying to use the ATM function. I am sure this is Endocort related. Anyone out there?

I am needy these days.

Hi Camie,

Those symptoms are almost surely due to the Entocort, especially the tremors. I had a lot of days with nausea problems back when I was still recovering, but I usually noticed the nausea right off the bat as soon as I woke up in the morning. If it hadn't already developed by then, it would soon develop when I got out of bed and started moving around. That said, it's not impossible for nausea to develop an hour or two after any meal, if the meal contained something disagreeable. If it consistently begins an hour or two after taking Entocort, every time, that sounds mighty incriminating for the Entocort.

It's possible for neurological damage caused by gluten sensitivity to cause tremors, but the tremors shouldn't begin right after nausea subsides — they should occur either all the time, or at sort of random intervals.

The Entocort appears to be mighty suspicious, in your case.

Very similar to the side effects I had on Entocort as well as having vertigo. I stopped taking it and am using diet only.

I read on the drug info sheet that you're supposed to take the Entocort before you eat so it has a chance to be absorbed in your colon before you put food into your system. Also said that eating with taking Entocort will make it less effective. I take it one hour before breakfast and have no issues. I get nausea with the MC very badly along with the severe diarrhea, stomach pain and horrid fatigue.

We all react differently to drugs. I had no side effects and I took one with each meal. Go figure. Don't take any for a day and see if you get the symptoms. So sorry you are having such a hard time :(

entecort side effect...

Post by wmonique2 »

Hey Camie,

I had nausea for months from MC and jitters from entecort. Entecort never took care of my nausea which is a common symptom with MC as Tex mentioned.

The only thing that took care of my nausea (which was very debilitating) was Elavil, an antidepressant. Nausea kept m e in bed for weeks.

But, listen to Tex, he knows more than I do about these matters...I am just sharing my experience.

Love,

Monique

Camie,
Just to throw one more idea in the mix-- like Tex I had horrid nausea as soon as I woke up. Mine appears to be connected to gastritis of some kind. I've had to take Dexilant and it has definitely made a difference. I've stopped it twice only to have the nausea return and I had to start the Dexilant again, so I've caved in and am taking it daily now. Apparently excess acid and erosion is tied to my nausea. I followed up with acupuncture and that really helped me defeat the nausea.

I didn't get nausea from Entocort but I did get abdominal cramps and those could certainly make you nauseated too. I didn't get tremors from Entocort either but I did feel jittery on Prednisone so clearly the steroids meds can make you feel that way. I found the cramping reduced every time I reduced the dosage of the Entocort as I was titrating down. Eventually I read it as "time to lower the dosage'.

I wondered about blood sugar issues but since you said you'd eaten breakfast I thinking that isn't a factor you are dealing with. You can feel nauseated and shaky with low blood sugar.

It's tough to sort out what the causes and aggravations are with this disease.
take care,
Carol

Thanks again for the input, I find this is a lonely disease, if that makes any sense.?

The nausea comes and goes. One pill, two pills, three pills...no pills. who knows? MC or Endocort? Anyway it is short lived. It resolves a few hours. I will trade off a few hours of nausea in place of the scurge of the debilating D.

The jitters I am sure are Endocort related. Four hours after the Endocort it is time for tremors. At times I felt so jittery that i didn't want to drive. So, I let my seventeen year old drive me on errands. That is scarey!!!!!!!!!!!!! yikes!

Gluten free diet maintained...........Endocort and immoduim as prescribed. I am following the path.

Camie, I was prescribed Zofran for nausea while I was on Entocort and recovering from my major flare. It is helpful and very mild I thought. I could take one at work and it didn't sedate me. If your doctor offers it you might consider trying it. You only take it as needed. thankfully I rarely ever need one now but back then, it was a daily thing, sometimes 2 or 3 times per day. It was essential because I was losing weight rapidly and needed to get my stomach settled so I could get some calories in there.

Just a random thought. I hope things improve for you soon so you can reduce your Entocort and get rid of those side effects.

Carol

PS- that sounds like a good kid who will drive Mom around so she can get her errands run!
