I have never had a reaction to products used externally that contain soy. I also eat rice and corn checks of all flavors. I'll have to check my lipstick. Worrisome........I am sensitive to soy but have never reacted to these products.

This is for Terri who asked about diabetes and carbs. Your A1C was great! I wish I had it that good. Even with an insulin pump I don't achieve those results. I wonder why your doc said you're at risk....(are you overweight? because that would do it unfortunately).

Anyway the answer to your question: complex carbs like fruits, vegies. potatoes, rice and grain if you can handle them. I try not to eat more than 15-20gr of carbs per meal that way I don't peak like crazy and need a lot of insulin to bring it down. In your case, your doc doesn't want your pancreas to shoot too much insulin.

What's 20gr? google Diabetes exchange list. Very easy to understand. Easy to follow. It's like one fruit is the equivalent of one slice of bread or 1/3 c. of rice. Once you'll see it, you'll get it.

This also means that you may have to eat 6-8 times a day, small meals and snacks in between, but not more than 15 grams per meal. You won't peak and your blood sugar with come down easier.

Love,

Monique

@ Monique...thanks for getting back to me. I'm actually a little underweight thanks to this nasty disease. I was weighing 110 at 5'3"...freaked out and went on Pepto to gain some weight back. I now weigh 113. In June I weighed 125. Trying to get up to 120. So I'm freakin' about the diabetes as it's in my family. I honestly don't know why my doctor always warns me about my A1C. I guess because it's not in the norm range...think the norm range ends in at 5.6. My blood sugar was up that day I saw her (167). Never been that high. Of course I had just eaten lots of rice and a banana before my appointment as she didn't tell me to fast and I had no idea she was checking my blood sugar. Just wanted my electrolytes checked. I kept thinking maybe the Asacol I was taking at the time did that but have no idea. My blood sugar has always been normal. Also my cholesterol was a lot lower. That doesn't usually happen. Going GF helped with that for sure. I do hope I don't get Diabetes but I know if I do, I have someone to talk to about it! I'm still trying to wrap my head around Latent Celiac and LC....don't need another AI disease right now.

@Zizzle...what do you put in your smoothies?

@Christine....so loving my Chex as I need the carbs right now! Later I will need to change things up a bit.

Terri.

If you just ate when you saw your doc, then your sugar would be up! It's normal for everybody. Next time go fasting then she'll have an accurate reading...don't worry about it, the last thing you need now is something ELSE on your plate. Just keep your cool about it.

BTW, I had the same issue with losing weight. I freaked out too. I couldn't get enough calories in me since I was always nauseated...The last couple of weeks I gained some and I am real HAPPY about it. Was too thin.

Asacol doesn't raise sugar, Entecort does.

Take care,

Thank you Monique...you're a sweetheart. I will keep my cool. Just having a rough day for some reason, no symptoms or anything, just people ticking me off..lol! One of those days.

Well I've definitely heard from a few on here that were happy to gain some weight back. Yay for that! I remember that you started taking Amitriptyline. Hoping it's still going well for you. My neurologist who prescribed it for me 20 years ago told me I would probably gain weight from it as it does increase your appetite...especially for sweets. So you may be putting on even more weight. I got off the drug when I had my son, but then needed to get back on it after he came along....chronic headaches had come back with a vengeance. That med has been a lifesaver for me....I still take it!

Okay....so it's the Entocort that raises the blood sugar. I knew it was some med for LC....thank!

Sounds like you are doing well.

Hey Terri,

Yes, I am doing really well thanks to Elavil! It brought back my appetite and mostly got rid of the nausea in less than 48 hours!

What can I say? that drug is a miracle.

I am now 110 beautiful pounds. Had gone down to 105 (I'm your height). At 110 I feel good, don't want to go up any further. I am well disciplined with eating and counting calories all day with every bite I take (diabetes will do that to you--you can eyeball a plate and know exact composition, calories, fats, name it).

I don't eat sweets or fatty foods and between all the no-nos of diabetes and the no-nos of colitis, I am guaranteed to stay slim!

Take care of yourself. And as the cliche goes, don't sweat the small stuff. In other words, don't let others piss you off---most of the time they are not worth it, right?

Oh wow...we are the same size! I love how you said you are now a beautiful 110 pounds. I guess I should say that about myself and if anyone makes a comment about my weight this weekend (going to a wedding), I will have to bring that up. Love it!

Impressed you stay away from sweets. Guess when ya gotta...ya gotta! I've always had a problem with sweets but this disease has been a wake up call and haven't had anything sweet in a while. Miss it but I'm getting better.

Have a great weekend!

Terri,
Here's my post about my green smoothie breakfasts. My latest smoothie was kale, red chard, parsely, one orange, blueberries and the usual flax meal, rice protein powder and almond milk. My husband hates them, but I don't mind the taste at all. They are very satisfying and so darn healthy. I have zero potty issues on days that I have them.

I agree Zizzle. Some of us are more reactive to soy than others. I can eat a couple of squares of dark chocolate and be fine. I haven't tried eating a lot of it though.
