"Sassy Water" has been a soothing and helpful drin

Post by Nettie »

Several months ago when my gut was really out of whack and the D was making me so sick, my hubby found a book called "The Flat Belly Diet" because he needs to get some weight off. In the book the author Cynthia Sass has the dieter to kick off the food plan by drinking some days worth of what she calls "Sassy Water". Well, he didn't like it much but I tasted it and liked it. At that same time is when I was beginning to think my electrolyte balance was getting messed up because of the multiple daily D and nondigestion going on and thought well maybe drinking this mixture instead of plain water would be a good thing. So I crossed my fingers about the ingredients not making the condition worse and started drinking several glasses of it a day and wow, it agrees with my system and I feel like I had an overall increased feeling of well being and it made me feel like I had a little more energy too. Of course in the book it is part of a "kick off" dieting ritual but not for me. It was a refreshing drink that felt very soothing when it seemed like anything else to drink was not agreeable.

I don't drink it every day now but try to have it several times a week. Depending on your own personal tolerances of the ingredients this is the recipe ~~~

Sassy Water

2 liters water (about 8 ½ cups)
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
12 small spearmint leaves.

Combine all ingredients in a large pitcher and let flavors blend overnight.

Sassy Water

Post by Nettie »

Hi Jessica, I don't know for sure how long it will last but refrigerated it should last at least 3-4 days. When I make it I always drink the entire pitcher by the end of the second day so this is a guess. Straining is a personal option to do or not. I dont strain mine except for taking out the lemon seeds, i get rid of those before putting the lemon in the pitcher.

Thanks for the suggestion- I'm always looking for something other than water to drink. Too bad I just weed whipped all my mint in the garden.

Sassy Water no mint ok

Post by Nettie »

Good morning DebE13, no mint-no problem  it's still good without mint when it's not available.
