So I made one, and I just finished off a couple of bowls. There's just nothing like a good stew to take the chill out of a cold day. And the best part is the leftovers in the freezer, that can be thawed and warmed up for a quick and easy meal.

Yummmm, makes me want to get the stuff for stew when I go to the grocery store today. It is 38 and feels like mid winter to me:)

Tex - can I ask what the ingredients are in the stew you make? That does sound good. I haven't made stew since going GF/DF/SF.

Yes, would love the recipe. I've actually never made stew. I didn't really start cooking till I got his disease. I made some chicken/veggie/rice soup yesterday.....lots to freeze for leftovers as well. Yep...got chilly here in Texas. Down to low 40's tonight....brrrr!

I used to like my stew really hot, but I find that after years of wear and tear, I have to tone it down a bit these days, in order to stay on good terms with my innards. :lol: This recipe is pretty versatile, and just about everything in it can be modified or substituted to fit your own personal taste. Obviously, if you use a regular stock pot (rather than a crock pot), you may need to reduce the cooking time, but as long as you don't let it burn, good stew is usually even better when the ingredients are overcooked to the point that they are cooked to pieces. Mmmm, I agree. It's been in 30's here and I'm just plain cold. I made several soups this weekend and they're so nice & filling.

What is cold? Stew is good but. Not when the weather is close to 90 and the fall Santa Ana winds are blowing! I could do with a little cool weather about now.

Hahaha- Christine. That sounds perfect right now!! I find I tolerate the cold and darkness less and less each year. I miss the birds chirping when I have to close all the windows. It's going to be a long six months. Not looking forward to daylight savings time next week, I never seem to adjust. I will be ready for bed at 8 pm until we change the clocks again in spring.

I love stew, but can't handle the tomato. Now I make it with a little red wine ( to deglaze the pot) after browning the meat and the rest is beef broth thickened with a blended can of beans. Lots of onions and garlic. herbs. And carrots and potatoes added half hour before it's done. Yum.

What type of beans, Leah? I haven't ventured into legumes yet. My gut is too erratic to try new stuff. I am in the C phase and pretty uncomfortable. Maybe legumes will blow me out without leading straight to D? And mucous, tons, and tons of mucous!

I do pretty well with most beans. I used pinto this time, but cannelli and black beans are good also. I haven't tried to go back to lentils or split peas yet, but maybe someday.
