Shock Treatment For GERD

Post by tex »

Hi All,

This is being promoted as a way to eliminate the use of PPIs for some patients:
Over the course of 1 year in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), lower esophageal sphincter electrical stimulation (LES-EST) improved symptoms, lowered esophageal acid exposure, and reduced proton pump inhibitor (PPI) use. The treatment had no gastrointestinal side effects or adverse events

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Al,

No, Medscape is not a subscription site. It's a site that many medical professionals read, and it does require registration, but it's absolutely free, and you don't have to be a medical professional to join. (And they don't sell your email address to spammers, either).

Everyone should be a member of Medscape, because they have some terrific articles about medical research.
