I just posted a recipe for coconut-chia crackers in Dee's Kitchen. These are good, and very easy to make. They don't have the usual suspects, nor do they have any nuts. If you are looking for crunch, these will fill the bill. At least when they first come out of the oven. The next day they have to be warmed or toasted because they will have absorbed some moisture from the air.

I don't like sunflower seeds (or crackers), but I do like these.

Bummer Tex. I eat nuts all the time.... except peanuts. Grapes are not nice to me either. Actually a lot of any fruit is not so great. It must be the type of sugars. Mangos seem best.

I notice that grapes are on the low mannitol and low sorbitol content list, so there must be some other problem with grapes. I just assumed that they had a high sugar alcohol content. :shrug:

Interesting Article.. Thanks . Maybe it's not the sugar alcohols at all. With grapes, it could be the skin. Apple skin doesn't work for me at all. I eat a lot of avocado and sweet potatoes and these are mentioned also. plus it says that cantaloupe is low, but it's not good for me either. No melon is. Hmmmmmm

It could be the skin, but fiber doesn't seem to be a big problem for me these days, so it's probably something on the skin. In 1986 the FDA prohibited the use of sulfites on fresh fruit meant to be eaten raw. Before that, sulfites were widely used as a preservative, because they prevented brown spots from forming on fruit (until droves of consumers began to complain about sulfite allergies). Still, sulfites may be the problem, because apparently they can still be legally used on grapes as a fungicide. :shrug:

Hi, Thank you Tex. While searching the site I click on site that listing fruits with low alcohol sugars. It explained what happened to me when I had two bananas with my breakfast. Severe bloating and pain that for lasted for three hours. That was the last time I had a whole banana. Jon

I had the same problem when I was still healing. I could get away with eating about half a banana, but if I overdid it, I had problems. I seem to be able to eat more now, but even today I would be afraid to eat more than one.

Pumpkin seeds are in season now! They are loaded with zinc. They are a mainstay of Guatemalan cooking, namely in the saucy dish "Pepian." I'm munching on green pepitas as we speak.

Walnuts are the only nut I can't tolerate, and MRT testing confirmed it.

I've been toasting the pumpkin seeds I dig out of pumpkins as I prepare to roast them. The last batch had salt and just a touch of garlic powder. It is quite good. We crack them open like sunflower seeds and eat them, or sometimes eat the shell, too.

When I was a teen we had a few papershell pecan trees in our yard. We used to gather the nuts, shell them, and send them to friends all over the country for Christmas. That was a loooong boring process. When we got to the last one, my mother always said, "There. That's the one I was looking for."

Sorry Tex, in this disease it always seems we have to give up something. I have been unable to eat nuts for many many years but never
connected it to MC, thought I was just sensitive. The major flare that finally sent me to a doctor happened after eating a bag of mixed nuts. I can eat peanut butter in small amounts I have never tried other nut butters.

Tex and Leah,
You may be reacting to the flouride-based pesticides on grapes. I try to minimize grape and grape juice consumption for this reason, unless they are organically grown.

Yes, Tex, some nuts bother me. I have given up peanuts because they are considered legumes, and almonds which came up as an issue for me. I recently tried sunflower seeds and they gave me such rapid pain, gas and D, it was surprising. Pecans, walnuts, and cashews don't seem to be an issue.

Thank you Zizzle for the post about the floride. I have well water and because it is not treated with sodium floride like the public water supply the dentist wrote a script for sodium floride daily. That was before I started doing research and read about the dangers of sodium floride. I asked a friend who is in charge of a city water supply about sodium floride and he did not want to talk about it. He said he did not want to lose his job. Jon
