Marliss,

So glad to hear that you are back if not all the time. It does become a chore at times to check in but still try every now and then. Sorry to hear about the flare but glad you are taking it all in stride and hope ou heal soon.

Love, Maggie

Hey Marliss!!
So great to hear from you. I wish I had the willpower to go 100% grain, legume and sugar free. PMS weeks derail those plans every month - I'm starving and need carbs, dark chocolate and sugar STAT! My tastes have also changed for the better. I always ate healthy, but now I crave things that others consider downright awful...like my morning green smoothies (kale, flax meal, etc) with very little fruit added for sweetness. My MC seems to be under control, perhaps due in part to the daily Claritin I'm taking to help my Amyopathic Dermatomyositis rash. I itch like crazy on 30% of my body. Sucks. When you have the answer for GA, let me know. My sister needs help with it!

Regarding your thyroid meds, my OB/GYN (who has thyroid issues himself) said your thyroid downregulates if you take too much replacement hormone, so it would be difficult to cause hyperthyroid by taking too much. Maybe he's clueless, who knows. He thought about offering me replacement hormone because I'm "clinically hypothyroid", although my TSH, T3 and T4 were perfect.

How's your daughter with AI Hepatitis doing? Is the GF diet helping? Any progression?

Hey Zizzle!! Good to "see" you!!

I hear you on the PMS. Not so regular any more, but I know I am gearing up when I'm extra-hungry. Going grain-free seems to help with it, though.

I'm so glad your MC is under control, but man--itching on 30% of your body?? That would drive me nuts! The GA in the spring was bad enough. I think about your sister just about every time I look at my GA. If this topical steroid the dermo gave me works on it if/when it flares in the spring, I will let you know.

I believe your OB/GYN on the thyroid stuff. I took a test a couple of weeks ago and my TSH was negligible and my T4 and T3 were comfortably mid-range. I feel good, so my thyroid is properly medicated, but my PCP is squawking because my TSH is hardly registering. She's worried about heart problems, but the Hunt study shows that TSH at the lower end of the range is heart-protective, and there is speculation that the protection grows as the TSH goes lower. Now that the flare is over (YAY!!) I need to check into adding more magnesium to my diet.

My daughter seems to be doing fine. I don't talk to her or see her much. She's pretty busy. I will have to remember to ask her about her AIH at Thanksgiving. I know she's consistent with the GF diet.

The one I'm a little concerned about is my 25yo son. He had strep or something else that didn't respond to an antibiotic and the MD took some blood tests to see what is going on with his immune system. We're waiting on the results. My suspicion is that it wasn't strep, it was EBV. But their 2yo was just diagnosed with strep and the odds are that she caught it from Daddy. I told him to have the MD check for EBV and mono (are they different? I don't remember) but I'd be surprised if he did. He's always been resistant to medical stuff.

Hi Marliss,
Good to see you again. Lovely picture!

Glad you are doing better. This illness seems to be connected to so many other symptoms. I am so glad we can help each other, since the doctors seem to have very little to offer us. I am glad your doc is open to suggestions.

I take zyrtec every night, which seems to help with the itchy scratchies which, for some reason, are worse at night.

Looking forward to "seeing" you again, with more good news!

Mono is caused by the Epstein Barr Virus, so same thing. They can check titers for it if they suspect it. I think there are other tests for active mono too. My daughter had strep 4 times in one year because she never fully responded to the antibiotics. She can't take penicillins, and the others are not as effective.
