While searching the forum for info on candida treatments, I noticed that a lot of people are basing decisions on Enterolab results for reactivity to yeasts and that it's often said there is no test for candida. Just wanted to share that I recently completed a three day stool analysis through Genova Diagnostics that looked at a number of things including Candida. I did notice that Zizzle mentioned she was tested for Candida through Genova as well.
In my case, there was no growth of Lactobacillus spp. but there was an overgrowth of Candida albicans/dubliniensis. In addition to reporting the relative abundance of Candida, they provide sensitivity results of azole antifungals, nystatin and natural antifungals to help guide treatment decisions.
While one can have a pretty good idea if Candida is a problem without an official test/diagnosis, the prospect of a strict SCD or similar sugar/starch free diet is daunting enough to prevent some from embarking on it unless they are certain that yeast is actually a problem for them.

Thanks Marie,
I will look into the testing. I have suspected yeast as a problem, and actually tested positive for yeast antibodies through enterolabs. I have gone through a round of diflucan and it would be nice to know if it solved the problem (or if it just made all of my hair fall out for no reason )

I too completed a round of diflucan a few months ago but didn't change my diet. My current doc (that ordered the Genova test) said taking a medicine to treat candida while still eating sugar/starches would be like sprinkling water on a forest fire. I'm going to try Nystatin, a supplement called GI Microb-X, and some acidophilus powder along with the elimination of all sugars/starches/yeasts and hope for the best.
