Can you take Pepto and entercort at the same time?
I started on entercort yesterday, will still watch what I eat, and plan to see an allergist to help in that regard. But my question now as I wait for the entercort to kick in, can I still take Pepto or does the one negate the efficacy of the other?
Hi Jennifer,
There is no known risk of an adverse interaction between Pepto-Bismol and Entocort EC, so sure, you can take them concurrently, if you wish. Pepto-Bismol tends to coat the intestines, but it's difficult to say whether or not that might slow down the absorption of Entocort and/or reduce it's effectiveness. Pepto-Bismol does not normally seem to cause a malabsorption problem, so apparently it does not slow down the absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, and that suggests that it probably would not interfere with the absorption of budesonide (the active ingredient in Entocort EC).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Jennifer,
It seems to vary. When I was on Entocort (3 tablets initial dose) it kicked in in 3 days and I was constipated at the end of three weeks and had to step down to two tablets then. Some folks seem to be on 3 tablets longer before stepping down--like 2 or 3 months. Don't step down too soon. Suggest listen to your body re: step downs rather than a doctors arbitrary schedule. A lot of folks on here have been on entocort so we are good source of info. Too fast of a stepdown gives higher incidence of relapse, i.e. back to square one. Brandy

It worked in a day for me! It was amazing. I stayed on that dose about a month..... when I started getting C. Brandy is right. Listen to your body and don't freak out when you step down and things get a little "softer". It's a slow process. It took me seven months to completely be off of it.
Good luck
