Celiac Disease Study

Post by gluten »

I have noticed that there are many people that have been dx with celiac disease and still have symptoms. The Beth Isreal Deconess Hospital in Boston is having a study looking for people who have been g-f for over 12 months. The contact number is 617-667-8266 or celiac@didmc.harvard.edu. Jon

Unless they're doing a completely open-ended study, they would surely disqualify anyone who has been diagnosed with another IBD, such as MC. I'm just guessing, though. Sometimes researchers do a poor job of screening subjects.

The reason for lack of eligibility is based on the fact that anyone with another IBD has other reasons for being refractive to a GF diet (since the GF diet is not known to bring remission for other IBDs (only for celiac disease) — at least it's not known to bring remission according to established medical principles. So those individuals with another IBD would just confound the results of a celiac study.

At least that how I see it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Tex, I will ask that question to the head of the nutrtional department at the Celiac Center. I have talked with her about MC, CD and gluten sensitivities. That is where my MC was dx over ten years ago. They had no treatment and mentioned Dr. Fine and the Entrolab. Sent a stool sample to Entrolab and the gluten antibodies were found. Been g-f for ten years. Jon

Jon, I emailed them as I live in Maine and would be willing to travel to Boston to be a part of this research. Thanks for the information!
