Very interesting indeed.
Diet is not going to help me deal with this. First thing is to stop getting UTIs and having to take antibiotics.

This article on the same site is also very interesting:

Thanks Z!

Good point Lesley,

We have several members who seem to be fans of those concoctions, and I've been wondering how in the world they can tolerate them, because not only are the oxalates a risk for stones/crystals, but they can also trigger MC reactions. I've long suspected that oxalates may be the primary reason why many of us have problems with buckwheat. Here's a thread from over 6 and a half years ago that you may find interesting:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

That's depressing!! I love my green smoothies! I make them at least 4x per week!!! I partly attribute my MC remission to them, but imagine if my rash was fueled by oxalates?!
I haven't taken an antibiotic in 7 years though. My friend who was working for the State Dept in Africa got a kidney stone, probably because he has to take doxycycline to prevent malaria.

Here's an opposing viewpoint on oxalate toxicity from someone who promotes green smoothies. Who's right?

This, on the other hand, is fascinating. Low oxalate diets for autism.

Zizzle,

You may be onto something here. Oxalates in the mother's diet may raise the risk of autism in her baby (both during gestation and postpartum). Note that oxalates are transmitted in breast milk. I'll bet a GF cookie that it also has the ability to cross the placenta during pregnancy, which may help to predispose to future problems.

I don't do green smoothies. I do juice 2-3x a week, and have never noticed any side effects. I hope I don't have to stop them.
