Librax

Post by suzieq »

Hi All,

First I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Hurricane Sandy hit my neighborhood hard, many trees down and we did not have electric for 1 week and we did not have our phone, internet and tv service for 2 weeks but we didn't have any damage, we were lucky. My family summer home, that we sold this past summer, in South Seaside Park, NJ was spared due to the dunes that our beach had in place, there was not much damage to the area like there was slightly north in Seaside Heights. I can't believe the pictures I have seen of that area. I just want to cry. The Jersey shore I grew up on is gone.

Anyway, about 2 weeks ago, my GI Dr. started me on a very low dose of Librax, I was having a lot of intestinal distress and intermittent D. I agreed to try it because I am tired of getting up hours before I need to so I can get to work just in case I have a flare of D. I still have a lot of intestinal distress but the D has been replaced with Normans and I'm also a little constipated. I am for the most part gluten, casein, soy and egg free, occasionally I cheat. The Librax makes me drowsy, dizzy and a little hoarse. Has anyone tried this medication? Also, I could tell by what my GI was telling me that he still doesn't feel foods have anything to do with the CC. Ugh!!!

Again, Happy Thanksgiving,
Susanne

Hi Susanne,
My family also has a Jersey Shore home, down in Cape May County. The storm wasn't quite as severe there, but our high dunes also did their job, thankfully. I totally "get" your feelings about the shore town you love and grew up going to. My family has been going to our town since the mid-1960's, and we've had our house since the mid-70's. We were on pins and needles through the days before and after the storm, until the evacuation was lifted and my brother could get in to inspect the house.

Additionally, I went to college in North Jersey (Morristown area) so that area, too, is special to me. It was hard to watch the distress going on there in the aftermath of the storm. The gas lines reminded me of my college days in the 70's, sitting in lines on odd/even days, and wondering if I would have enough gas to get to my part-time job at the (then pretty new) Livingston Mall.

I know nothing about Librax, but will tell you that if I have a morning commitment, such as my 8 AM exercise class, I am up at least 2 hours ahead to do my breakfast/bathroom thing. Sometimes, I'm up 3 hours ahead. And I thought that when I retired from teaching I'd never have to get up at the crack of dawn again unless there was a reason I chose--Haha, wishful thinking....I know there are many of us who are right there with you on the frustration with that issue.
