persistent yeast infection

Post by JenniferS »

I started entercort on the 13th and developed a yeast infection quite quickly. Was given a prescription but saw no improvement. Took a second pill and spoke w/ the pharmacist. Got over the counter meds. Still no improvement. I feel like I'm chasing one thing after the other. On entercort, I'm still taking 4-8 Peptos a day, which seems to be working for the most part. I'm wondering if I should cut the entercort and just stick to Pepto. I'm GF/SF/DF, and I know I need to stay away from carbs for the yeast, but not sure what I'd eat if I wee to do so as I'm still on the rice, meat, and mushy veggies diet. Although maybe I could eat almond butter for a few days. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi Jennifer. Did they give you Fluconizole? Have you tried the OTC creams? Are you sure it's yeast and not bacteria? I have made that mistake before. Entocort shouldn't cause yeast. Weird. Antibiotics usually do though.

If the Entocort was what you were on first and it wasn't working and that's why you went to Pepto, then maybe you should just stick to Pepto.... but wean off Entocort SLOWLY! If it is the other way around, then maybe the Pepto should go. Hard to say, but how will you know which drug is working if you are taking both?

There is no real evidence that eating rice causes yeast to grow.

So, got my labs back. Everything came back negative. The gyno thinks it could be caused by autoimmune stuff and recommended I take antihistamines. I wonder if any other ladies with lc have had similar experiences. :(

Hey Jennifer. You might want to message me, but I have an autoimmune thing called DIV (desquamative, inflammatory, vaginitis) I don't know if you have any other symptoms, but it took many doctors , treatments and years to figure out what I have. Look it up on line and see if you have the other symptoms that go along with the discharge (when the gyno looks under the microscope, does she see a lot of white cells?). I suffered so many years and because this is autoimmune, there is no cure. I'm hoping it's not what you have but if it is, i will let you know what my specialist has me doing to keep the symptoms under control.

Oh, and how did you find a specialist? and thank you so much! I hope that's not what I have, too, but at this point, answers and help is welcome!

When I had an HMO, I was passed from one doctor to the other ( even an oncologist and dermatologist). Then I joined Kaiser. After seeing the regular obgyn and she had no answers, Kaiser sent me to their specialist in the city ( SF). Yes, I have found some relief, but no cure.
