Thanks for sharing this Deb. Wow....he's totally clueless alright. I felt sorry for Jennifer with his grilling and all and not showing any kind of empathy at all. I can't believe this guy is a doctor.....or wait....maybe I can.

It was my Cardiologist's P.A. that insisted I get checked for Celiac after getting chronic WD from the beta blockers they prescribed me. If it weren't for him, I probably would have waited much, much longer before going to a GI doctor for procedures. I always think about writing a letter to him, thanking him, but haven't done it yet. He always spent so much time with me trying to figure out what was going on with my palps and later the D. So grateful for him.

Terri
Diagnosed with Lymphocytic Colitis in July, 2012 then with Celiac in November, 2012.

The main problem with this entire issue is the fact that apparently many so-called "celiac experts" in influential positions in the medical industry, pretty much have the same attitude. If it doesn't fit their perception of the disease, then it doesn't qualify. If it doesn't qualify, it's not a problem, and therefore not worth the attention of the medical community. I wonder how many of these dinosaurs still belong to the Flat Earth Society.

Thanks for posting that.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

INTERESTING

I always rather supposed that “Dr Drew” Pinsky’s doctorate was in Psychology, so am quite surprised to find he is listed as specialized in Internal medicine and Addictive medicine. He appears to maintain a practice limited to people over the age of 60 (basically gerontology?) where Celiac disease would not be a common ailment in the patient population (that is, if in fact he really has much of a ‘practice’).

Having occasionally seen portions of “Dr Drew”, this program does not surprise. His basic focus is on behavior and emotional issues, -- so that’s what his shows are really all about. I’ve always considered that his show is based along the lines of the sitcom “Frasier” – who as a basically tortured individual, indulges his oversized ego -- by plying others with his form of Doctor educated psycho-babble-pop-psychiatry.

Only ‘Frasier’ is funny, … but ‘Drew’ is not.

Regarding this "Interview about one person's Celiac Disease" ... I really didn’t perceive that he was the least bit interested in her medical condition – instead, he was trying to control the topic by attempting to move her off the more basic issues of the disease itself, and what had happened to her as far as her employment was concerned --- toward her ‘feelings and emotions”, at which point he would then have been able to move the interview toward his patented kind of OH-so kind, sympathetic, and understanding -- pop-psychology type advise. In other words, he either gets Drama – or he will try to manufacture Drama.

In Pinsky’s TV role here, as a supposedly knowledgeable (medical) interviewer for a TV broadcast, it certainly would have behooved him to do some ‘homework’ on Celiac Disease before attempting this interview. Good grief ... He flunked any test on Celiac Disease -- by anyone’s standards – and badly! He was totally unprepared. If his program wasn’t such a sappy show in the first place, he might have been fired for what was very sub-par performance for his level of education.

Jennifer Esposito held her ground! Good for her! To bad she agreed to be subjected to such a travesty of an interview in the first place.
