The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine, or the slowest form of poison. Ann Wigmore

My question is, practically speaking, why is this difference so important? If ingesting gluten causes symptoms that interfere with a person's ability to function in the world as well as damaging them internally, why does it matter how those symptoms get labeled, celiac or gluten sensitivity. The treatment is the same, remove gluten from the diet. I can see how the differentiation is important if the purpose is to understand how gluten does it's damage but when it comes to individuals trying to figure out how to eliminate their symptoms it doesn't seem to matter what label you give the problem since it makes no difference in terms of treatment. It seems to me that the politics of medicine is interfering with the practice of medicine which in the final analysis should be about treating sick people appropriately.

:iagree:
I know it's been discussed here before...gluten sensitivity is gluten sensitivity...whatever "they" choose to call it.

Jean,

It seems to be an important distinction mostly for a few high-level "experts" who would like to avoid having to eat crow, if they can figure out a way to get around it.

I agree, from a practical viewpoint, it's a moot point.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
