Flour Substitutes?

What do you guys use to replace self-raising flour and plain flour (bearing in mind I am in the UK)? I am having hit and misses here! I did buy some gluten free plain flour but it didn't really work - I was using it as a thickener for a casserole - only it didn't!! :chef2:

I am really enjoying getting back into cooking!

Hi Anne,

Straight, (one ingredient) GF flours don't work very well in most recipes. We have to blend several different types of flours made from GF grains or starches, in the right proportions, in order to get a blend that works well.

Anne, I've had good results for thickening with rice flour. My favorite is sweet rice flour which is finer than regular rice flour. It's the same rice as that which is used for sushi, which I also make. I'm not sure if it's available for you in Ireland but I use it 1:1 for regular flour. Deb
