Was this put into effect?

And here is the current state of affairs for the "Colitis" section of the proposed ICD-10-CM. Something tells me doctors' offices will continue to code incorrectly when so much specificity is required. At least the new proposed numbering will organize MC (CC and LC) into one coherent category.

Nevermind

I called my GI's office and the coding person told me that Z's list doesn't go in effect until next year. She said I had to use the code for D!

They can use the code for D since it is a presenting symptom, but they should also use ICD-9 code 558. or 558.9 for the actual diagnosis.

For example, for my skin rash, my docs use a code for "Dermatomyositis" (my diagnosis), and "skin rash" (a symptom).

(558) Other noninfectious gastroenteritis and colitis
(558.9) Gastroenteritis, noninfectious, unspecified

Here's an old thread.

The ICD-10 coommitee met this fall. Interesting they never sent me a status update. I'll find out what we got...
