sudefed reaction?

Post by Leah »

I came down with a BAD cold a couple of days ago ( my first of the season). Since I am prone to sinus infections, I always take Sudefed to keep things drained. Well, I just had a bout of WD. Could it be the meds? Or the fact that I'm swallowing lots of mucus? i am not eating much due to lack of appetite.

Leah,

I've been using a mixture of a cup of hot water, 2-3 teaspoons of Braggs ACV and about a tablespoon of Manuka honey. Sip like a tea. What a difference it makes in mucus drainage! After about twenty minutes, I no longer feel the build up in my sinuses or my throat. They feel clear and I can breathe well. I have found that mucus is hard for me to digest. I wouldn't be surprised to find it is the mucus that is giving you the D problem.

Try it! Both the ACV and the honey are great for fighting infection. It truly stopped my cold from advancing to a sinus infection.

Mandy

P.S. I also used colloidal silver. Awesome stuff.

Hi Leah,

Sorry you have a cold. What's in Sudefed? I thought I was coming down with a cold last week and got paranoid as I honestly don't know what kind of decongestant I could take that would be free of all my intolerances.....me that's Gluten and dairy and probably artificial sweeteners.

Does anyone take a decongestant that they don't react to?

@Mandy...very interesting about your little cold cocktail. I may have to try that when I need it. Sounds like something my kid needs as he's always got drainage.

Leah...if you try this let us know! And I hope you feel better soon!

Leah,

The ingredients in Sudafed shouldn't cause D, but of course we are all individuals, so YMMV.

There's also a possibility that the "cold" might be associated with an intestinal virus of some type that's causing the D.

Thanks Mandy. Where would I find ACV? Never heard of it.
If I gave it to my husband and his stomach is fine. Tex, does that rule out an intestinal virus?
Terri, I spelled Sudafed wrong, but it's a common decongestant that works wonders for me. In California, you have to ask the pharmacist for it and they take your ID information. Apparently, the active ingredient is used to make Meth.

Maybe, but I've had viruses in the past, when I was pretty sure about the identity of the source, and my symptoms were quite different than theirs (mine are usually less severe). I attribute that difference to the way our respective immune systems are programmed. For example, I'm old enough that I was exposed to most of the more virulent strains of the flu that swept around the world back in the 1950's and later, and current strains are mutations of those, so I may have some degree of immunity to some/many of the more recent strains, which makes my symptoms milder.

Or maybe I just had a different virus, from an unrecognized source.

Leah,

ACV is apple cider vinegar. You need Braggs (found at most stores, including Whole Foods) because it has the "mother" in it. In other words, it is raw, unfiltered, and so, so good for you!

The Manuka honey is expensive! But, worth every penny. Go to Amazon, and look up Manuka honey, the Wedderspoon variety. It has 251 comments, and rated 4 and 1/2 stars. I was doubtful, even after the reviews, but I thought, what the heck, and bought it at Whole Foods.

So glad I did. It gave me almost instant relief. Plus, I love the taste. Great on GF bread! I take a teaspoon every time I feel "out of sorts".

P.S. I got my info from earthclinic.com It's a great site, filled with natural remedies for all sorts of problems.
