Relapse and budesonide maynot be covered now

Post by Camie »

I have a flare of symptoms this past week. I took Ivermectin (for scabies) on Dec 24. The D started shortly after that and has continued since then.

I called the GI doc and he prescribed Budesonide 6mg. I am in the process of switching health insurance do my changes in my husbands job. I have no insurance coverage for meds until I am processed through the endless system.

The pharmacy called me and informed me that the Rx would cost me $1,000 dollars for one months supply. Now with insurance it I will have to pay 20%.

I checked the website to see if the drug was covered. It was not listed. My husband called and a rep said it was covered. Who do I believe? I won't know until I get the magic ID number from the insurance company. It is Saturday and the people that process the numbers are not in until Monday!

I know people get their meds from out of country. any suggestions?

It is going to be a long weekend

Hi Camie,

I'm sorry to hear of this development. I'm afraid I can't think of any quick remedies. Since any imports have to go through Customs, that means that a package from India will likely require 2 to 3 weeks for delivery. A shipment from Canada might be a bit faster, but still not "fast".

Ivermectin is effective up to a year, but the half-life of the drug is less than a day, and the half-life of it's metabolites is about 3 days. That suggests that the drug itself should have mostly cleared your body by now, so if the D is still persistent, it may continue for a while.

If you can get an approval on Monday, that appears to be the fastest way to accomplish anything.

I did research Ivermectin and I know it has cleared through my system. I just wonder what havoc it induced in those few days on my already compromised digestive system.

Also, with scabies the itching is intense, which means I am in overdrive with producing histamines. I wonder what that is doing to my digestive tract. Added to that were two topical tratments of Permethrin Cream 5%..

I keep a detailed food log and the downward spiral seemed to be after the Ivermectin.

Sad to say I have health insurance which is a large part of my husbands benefit plan and our out of pocket contribution to this plan, and I find myself looking to the UK and India to fill my prescrption needs..

It's apparently causing leaky gut and D. Sorry, I forgot about antihistamines. Have you tried taking one or more antihistamines? They should help. If type 1 antihistamines don't slow down the D, a type 2 antihistamine might do the trick. For some of us, the right antihistamine (or combination of antihistamines) is almost as effective as Entocort, and they're available everywhere, OTC.

The health care system in this country is badly broken, and the so-called Health Care Reform Bill did absolutely nothing to try to fix the problem, namely, ridiculously inflated costs. The overall cost increased, instead.

So sorry to hear about your flare Camie. Like Tex said, maybe a combination of Claritin and Pepsid would help. Maybe taking Immodium would help "reset"things. I hope things settle down for you soon and you can get the meds you need.

I agree with the antihistamine suggestion. I'm taking a Claritin Reditab in the morning and Zyrtec in the evening. It helped the itching a lot, and it seems to have helped my MC.
