The study was done in Romania. I don't understand why it was published as a pediatrics article, when the average age of subjects was 46.
Their diagnosis of MC may have been artificially low because they took biopsy samples from "normal" areas of mucosa, avoiding any areas that showed any indications of inflammation. IOW, they don't know how to diagnose MC.

Areas of inflammation associated with MC are indeed visible, during a colonoscopy, contrary to the official description in the literature. Those ares are just not as prominent as areas of inflammation associated with Crohn's or UC. If they avoided those areas, then it's no wonder that they didn't discover many cases of MC.During colonoscopy at least four biop-sies of normal mucosa from different re-gions of the colon were taken. Minimal macroscopic lesions (erythema, edema or superficial ulcers of mucosa) were noticed.
