So since your MC symptoms have subsided since being on the prednisone, do you "cheat" more with your diet?
.....just wondering. I think I would be a little tempted :)

I haven't cheated, although I am having to retrain myself to eat more fiber! I ate several unpeeled organic apples for the first time this week. I did finally have to eat out tonight...at a thai restaurant...I ordered duck with broccoli and green beans in a mildly spicy curry sauce. Should be safe as far as gluten is concerned, but normally thai chilies in any amount tear me up. We'll find out when they hit the colon. No issues so far...

I am getting nervous about worsening stomach pains after I eat, especially a spot on the left side of my stomach. I've read prednisone can cause gastritis and ulcers, something I've never had to worry about with my MC. Last thing I need now is GI pain! I'm completely alcohol free and eating well overall. The plaquenil may cause nausea and diarrhea, so this may be a short-lived remission of MC symptoms!

Keep us posted. I hope all goes well.

This holiday thing is killing me. I am making chocolate truffles today and this is the first year I can't eat them ( heavy cream). A lot of people would be upset if I didn't make them.

I went to a small girlfriend gathering and was so hungry, I broke down and started dipping my rice chips ( that I brought) into a spinach dip. I thought it was a mayo based thing. A little soybean oil usually doesn't do too much damage.Well, I was NOT IN A GOOD WAY the net morning! I called my friend to ask her to check the label if she still had it. Sour cream and cream cheese! Jeeez, when will I learn? The good news is when I do something like that, it only lasts a day or two. Dairy is evil!

Happy Holidays!

Tex was right, of course

I posted a couple of weeks ago that green smoothies were a good idea. After 4 weeks on them, I am giving up the ghost and going back to limited vegetables, well cooked. My problem has been and still is that I am not able to tell very well what is causing me problems. After almost 4 months of being gluten, dairy, soy nut, legume etc. free I am still having pretty bad symptoms. Since my post I have read about the FODMAP diet and think that those foods may have been problematic and also high oxalate foods need to be avoided. Bottom line, veggies and fruits are not the "quick cure" that I was hoping for. Tex was right about limiting vegetables and cooking them well.

Wow, this is tough! I know I am on the right track, but it is very hard. Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories. I learn a lot.

Hi Alice,

Yes, it's tough, but it gets easier as we fine-tune our diet and become more familiar with our routine. And this disease teaches us discipline, perseverance, and self-reliance, as a bonus.

Hang in there. Motivated people get results, so you will surely get your life back.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Alice, I know what you mean about fruits and veggies. Fruits are still very difficult for me. I can only eat very small quantities. As for veggies, I can eat most cooked ones, but certain ones still give me gas. I can also now eat homemade coleslaw. Yay! And as long as I stay with fresh, soft salad greens, I can have salad, so things are definitely better then they were..... but fruit :( !
