What was I thinking?

Post by Carriagehouse »

Missing my veggies SO much, tried well-steamed asparagus tonight. Have spent enough time in the powder room to re-wallpaper it. And to make matters worse, every time I make the mad dash across the living room, my husband hollers, "Run Forrest, run!" He's so amusing, he has started calling me Glutino, after my (so far) favorite brand of GF products. I have a feeling this will be funnier down the road.

Dear Leslie,
I have a feeling this will be funnier down the road.
Love your sense of humour and optimism. As you will have read it takes time to heal. IMHO laughing in the face of all this is part of the cure.

When you do get better, hopefully asparagus will be ok (it is one of my favourites). But, as we know we are all different.

Best wishes, Ant

Oh Leslie, I have so many friends who grin and say, "What a shi**y experience you are having!" Most of them "get it" that it is very painful and are trying to make me laugh at it. On a posting earlier, I commented that my hard of hearing husband went to the window to see what was going on outside in response to the rumbling in my gut! I just giggled at the perplexed look on his face and said, "It's me."

Yesterday he looked at me and said, "Wow, this thing is awful--it is aging you!" Trust me, I do not need to age any more than I am.

I certainly don't blame you for wanting to try asparagus--I would too, if I could. I am just grateful that it is winter in Michigan and nothing grows except hydroponically and asparagus is not one of those things! I think we all need to hop on a plane and go to Ant's restaurant.

Better mark that asparagus off your list for now! Stay with mushy, peeled veggies. I'm like you....miss eating the many veggies I ate. I eat quite a few now but it's still pretty limited. I seem to do okay with broccoli but only if I eat a little. Early stages was just peeled, well cooked squash, zucchini and carrots in my soup.

I'm sorry but have to laugh at what your husband said. He sounds like a funny guy. My hubby and kiddo actually had me smiling one time when I went for the toilet. I look back on it now and laugh. Sometimes we need a little humor!

I hope you are doing better and stay away from that asparagus!

Thanks, Ant! My 30 year old son keeps texting and e-mailing with one-liners from movies with "potty" scenes, like Dumb & Dumber (gross bathroom scene) and Blazing Saddles (campfire scene). Love to laugh :)

Jane, I can so relate! My tummy did the same thing the other day and my husband's head whipped around and he looked at me very wide eyed. Hard to believe such noises coming out of us are even possible! He is hard of hearing, too .... He probably would've blamed it on the dog ...... if we still had one ;)

Terri, yep. I laughed at my husband, too. He's got about a 14-year-old's sense of humor :)

I just figured we ought to share the funny stuff as well as the serious.

Hi Leslie,

Your hubby is a hoot! Most days are laughable & that's a good thing.
My bathroom has: a hand held DS game with solitaire and majong on it, scented candles, an incense burner, perfumed sprays, and scented plug-ins LOL!
I often sit wishing I could be using my time to organize my drawers, but I never thought about wallpapering.

Smile,

I started a remodeling project in h bathroom that way. Got bored sitting there so I starting plucking the most ugly maroon plastic tile off the bathroom wall. The next trip back I brought a butter knife and a grocery bag. Can't say my husband was thrilled when he got home but the bathroom is beautiful now and considering I spend a lot of time in there, it's quite serene.

Me too Cory- candles, spray, wipes for under the lid...
Although, the type of spray matters. Some leave a residue on the walls and vanity and some just make it worse by making it flavored poop smells. I have to be careful because I have chemical sensitivities and some sprays make me feel ill or itchy.

Check out the last photo in this link http://amarillo.com/slideshow/2013-01-1 ... re#slide-1 . Not quite the type of potty we need, but the above comments reminded me of it!

Leslie - this is so funny - "Run Forrest run." And... so appropriate. Keep smiling.

Thanks for sharing Leslie. Made me smile :)
I do want to say that sometimes it's wise not to eat too much GF processed food ( or any processed food)- especially at the beginning or in a flare. They have A LOT of ingredients that you could be reacting to. xanthan gum is a common culprit. I wasn't ready for GF bread until after about 6 months of healing. Just a thought.

Cory and Deb - I like your bathroom decorating ideas! Might as well make the atmosphere as serene as possible!

Brenda - that potty chair is awesome. I just showed it to my husband and he replied that he would like to invent a composting recliner chair so he never has to get up!

Leah - thanks for mentioning that. I have been trying to eat as much fresh food as possible and not too much GF junk food, but I really like their cinnamon raisin bread with almond butter in the morning, and a (very) occasional shortbread cookie in the evening, with my decaf herbal tea, of course.

Paula, glad you got a chuckle. I was reading all the funny posts in the archives earlier. I was laughing out loud at some of them!

Morning Leslie and thanks for the laugh to get me going.

I usually get for my husband - "Oh, Oh you have the look and is it Bathroom Boogie time?"

You just have to laugh.

Love, Maggie

P.S. - I love asparagus but it is by far the worst offender on my veggie list.
