Asacol. Any feed back?
New insurance plan. Budesonide is no longer a viable option. I have a 5000 dollar deductible with all meds office visits labs before the insurance even kicks in. My cost for budesonide is 1200.00 Can't do that. Called the GI doc and he prescribed a less "expensive drug" Asacol to the tune of only 400.00 per month. I filled one weeks supply for 89.00. I haven't started it yet. I am just so upset. You have to be rich or have great insurance plans to be ill. Feeback on Asacol?

Camie,
My experience with asacol has been very positive. It is what stopped the D when I was diagnosed 18 months ago. I am now taking one a day and hoping to wean myself off of it soon.
Budesonide is a steroid, entirely different from asacol. You can buy both in Canada for a lot cheaper than you can in the U.S. If you need a pharmacy source, let me know

Hi, I tried asacol and made the D worse. As my GI said everyone is different and currently back on Entocort only; he had me taking both for a few weeks before weaning off Entocort because I was adamant about getting off the steroid. The first week I felt better then after 10 days I was horrible. I read online that the coating had casein & gluten, but I am sure someone else can say if that is true or not.(It is hard to trust all the online postings!)

I was prescribed Lialda (similar to Asacol, if I'm not mistaken) after the budesonide stopped working for me and it stopped my WD. Had you been on budesonide before and was it working? You may want to try to order it from India.

Morning Camie,
Sorry to say but Asacol was my first drug prescribed and was up to 12 per day with absolutely zero results. The Entocort was much better but I had very bad side effects. You can't get sick in this country and afford it.
Love, Maggie

Camie,
This one has the lowest prices, and it's where most members who don't have insurance order their budesonide. If you order from a Canadian phamacy you will get the exact same product, with about a 40% price markup. You will also need a prescription when ordering from a Canadian pharmacy. No prescription is needed when ordering from India. Don't order more than a 90-day supply at one time (270 capsules), because Customs may confiscate the order if it exceeds that amount (they have instructions to confiscate shipments that are intended for resale, and they assume that larger orders are going to resellers).

I don't keep up with Canadian pharmacies that offer the best prices on budesonide, so if you prefer to order from a Canadian pharmacy someone else will have to post a link that they have found to be reliable.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

asacol--any feedback
Camie,
I used both Canada Pharmacy and Canada Drug Center (they're online) for the last 3 years. They are both reliable. Compare prices between both. I get a better deal with Canada Pharmacy. I buy both Lialda and Entecort from them.
Good luck.

Hi Camie,
Asacol made me worse! Budesonide works but GF diet has seen the biggest improvement! I am still on budesonide (6 months so far at 9mg) and I think my GI wants to keep me on it for some time to come! Side effects have lessened as time has gone on and I have finally started losing weight (at last) having gained 11 lbs since July - I still need to lose 25lbs in all! I am having Normans daily now I am happy to report and will never touch Asacol again!
