CC and LC differences
Is CC 'worse' than LC or vice versa? I've read up on it but nothing that really tells me if one is 'worse' than the other.
Diagnosed with Collagenous Colitis November 2012.
They're just different forms of the same disease. The clinical symptoms are the same, and the treatment is the same. The only difference is the way they are diagnosed. Everyone who has MC has increased mucosal lymphocytic infiltration, but those diagnosed with LC have a higher level of lymphocytic infiltration (IOW, a lymphocyte count that exceeds 20 lymphocytes per 100 enterocyte cells).
Those diagnosed with CC have increased thickness of collagen bands in their intestinal walls, (collagen bands that exceed 10 microns in thickness). With LC, collagen band thickness remains normal (IOW, below 10 microns in thickness). With CC, the lymphocyte count may or may not exceed 20 lymphocytes per 100 enterocytes — it's irrelevant, because the diagnosis of CC is based on the increased collagen band thickness.
In addition to LC and CC, there are at least 10 other forms of MC that most GI specialists have never even heard of.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
