We had a Mexican 1 week vacation planned and I had the worst "D" leading up to it that I had in 2+ years. I was recently diagnosed end of last year with the CC and hadn't started on any meds yet. Desperate for relieve I got a last minute appt. and my GI prescribed Budesonside and I began to take it the next day (on the Saturday before our trip....we were leaving on our trip the next Wednesday).
The very day I started it, I could see results! The drastic "D" slowed down SIGNIFICANTLY that day. and continued to improve. We just got back from vacation yesterday after our week, and I am so happy that I had the drug or it would have been a disaster. For me, this was my life-saver. Yes, I watched somewhat what I ate and drank, but the meds did wonders for me. I would 'go' in the AM and usually that is all I would 'go' all day. It was "soft" but working on solidifying. This morning at home, my bowels were formed and soft.... still only going once a day.
Is this unusual that the meds would help this much this fast? I'm so happy!! [/u]

Mexican Vacation and Budesonide
Diagnosed with Collagenous Colitis November 2012.
Hi Birdlover,
So glad you were able to enjoy your vacation! I took some (Imodium) on my last vacation and I had such a great time. Some do see results with meds pretty quickly. I went to Norman after my first day on Pepto. I just consider us the lucky ones. Stick with meds for awhile and always stay 100% with the diet.

Hi Birdlover,
My first dose of entocort also seemed to miraculously stop the WD immediately. I was already on a GF diet and it is very important to do that. I was very fortunate and so are you. I have weaned down to one entocort every other day and intend to wean down to one every third day. Good luck!

To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.

That's great news bird lover! I also got immediate results from it. After about one month at that dose, I had to step down because i was actually getting C. So, keep that in mind. Your body will tell you when to take a step down. If your diet is good, then your healing will be faster. I did however realize a couple things I was reacting to once I was down to one pill a day. The diet is very important to avoid relapse.....and apparently every time you go back on budesonide, it is less effective. Yikes! Best to avoid ever having to go back on.
So happy for you!
