ate SOY by accident
so I have been very good on my once again GF and dairy free diet! A product that I picked up from the store yesterday, (dairy free sour cream), was made of soy and I didn't even think to check! I am so sorry today, I feel like my stomach is not a part of me and is paying me back for this horrible deed. I never knew just how bad it could be, it almost makes me laugh...if it wasn't so painful.
Anyhow, just a little reminder to check your ingredients before you buy.

Thank you Leah, I really didn't think that "had" to be Gluten free since I gave it a try in the past but since the diagnosis of LC, I decided to give another try. Soy was a definite allergy for me, dairy was annoying at best. I have really been suffering since the colonoscopy. I feel like it made everything worse and my stomach way more sensitive! Have you found that to be true? (sorry to go off topic)
Your impressions of the colonoscopy may be on target, because the cleanout solutions used prior to colonoscopy exams are so caustic that they have been shown to actually trigger MC for some people. The medical community desperately needs to find a better (safer) way to prep for colonoscopy exams.

Tex I never once thought it could be the clean out solution, but it was pretty bad, I wouldn't doubt it for a second.
Jon, the cabbage juice sounds nasty, but if there are no side effects and it works the same, we should be given that option too!
Leah, I am so glad that you didn't suffer from the solution. Maybe you drank enough water to flush it out, or your body was okay with it...who knows.
I do know that I have lost a permanent 5 lbs. since then and I don't see anything getting better.

My experience is that the gastroenterologists all get together and decide what the "standard" prep is going to be for their town and everybody does it the same way--at least that is the case where I come from! The colonoscopy I had in December was brutal only because of the prep. I probably spent a little more time in the bathroom, but I did not see a whole lot of difference from what my life had become--it was just a little more, shall we say, violent?
As I was enduring the prep, I had plenty of time to think about having accompanied my poor 86 y/o father to his last colonoscopy. I vowed I would never let them put him thru that again! He really never recovered fully recovered from it and he lived another 8 years. I think there should be a cut-off age for colonoscopies.
I hope that you recover from yours soon and I hope there are not more nasty surprise foods that you can't eat!

Jane,
You're probably right about the "cleanout conspiracy". They probably agree to a hierarchy of options, though, just for grins, to make patients feel as though their needs are actually being addressed. For example, when I had a series of tests done (almost 13 years ago), the first cleanout made me as sick as a dog (of course now, I realize that shouldn't have surprised me. ). So when we were discussing the next test, I mentioned how sick it had made me, and the doctor obligingly agreed to give me a different one that "wasn't as harsh". What a joker!
So when it came time for the third cleanout (all of these tests took place within a couple of months), I complained even more about the cleanout solution, and the doctor kindly agreed to let me use GoLYTELY this time. Well it sounded good, anyway. After I used it, my impression was, "Go lightly, my ass!"
I'll bet that whenever those jokers get together during a break, they never get tired of laughing about how gullible patients are when it comes time to scour out their poor guts with lye water.

I'll bet the sadists who named that product had a good laugh, too, at our expense.Leslie wrote:GoLYTELY? Really? :)

Tex, I used the same for my last one. I've never been so sick- just thinking about it makes me shudder. I got the worst chills ever. I also wasn't able to drink the whole amount required either, I began throwing up a few hours before I was due to stop. I was terrified if I didn't get cleaned out enough I wouldn't be able to have the procedure. I'm on the three year plan since they found polyps both times I've had colonoscopies. I was a bit jealous that my husband had his first ever and doesn't have to go back for ten years. (That's good, though). He and my son (poor kid) used myralax for heir prep and had no complaints beyond the standard. It was an odd year to have each member of the family have a colonoscopy.
You're right Tex, that name infuriated me by the end of my clean out. There were F-bombs dropped all evening in regards to the idiot who came up with at one.
