Hi Julie,
Treating adrenal problems may be like treating MC — it probably takes longer than everyone expects.
Thanks for the update, and I hope that your next test results are better.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Sometimes healing can take a long time. Gluten damage left me with peripheral neuropthy and balance issues. I've been on a GF diet for over 10 years now, and I've been in remission from MC for almost 9 years. But until 3 years ago, I still had peripheral neuropathy and balance issues. 3 years ago I started taking a prescription vitamin mix (Metanx), and after about a year, I saw some improvement. I'm still taking it, and I'm still improving. My peripheral neuropathy is much better, and my balance is almost back to normal. That's why I say that sometimes healing takes a long time. There is always hope.

Hi everybody,
I am here with some more bad news. My bloodresults showed that my cortisol level went down with 10 units. That is really bad news. But here is what happened:
I had to go from 10 mg to 7 mg. 2 days later, I had to go from 7 mg to 5mg. That means I went down with half of what I took in less than a week.
So there are 2 possible reasons why my levels got down:
1. My adrenal glands are not manking enough cortisol, and they never will.
2. My doctor weaned the cortisone off to fast. This will cause my adrenal glands to create cortisol, but not fast enough. This is what I'm hoping for.
In don't feel well at all. My bloodpressure is low (9 over 6, I've always been a 12 over 8 kind of girl), my head hurts, I have D, I am nauseaus, I am dizzy, I am extremely tired and I feel as if I would faint all the time. My muscles hurt extremely and I actually feel like an 80 year old woman (just to be clear, I am 23 years old.)
I will have more news on Friday. I have to do another bloodtest on Thursday. If this isn't good. I will have to see a specialist. The thing is, there aren't many specialists in this area in my region.
Please remember to always wean your corticoids!!!

It doesn't matter how many times you fall, but how many times you get up en go for it again. HOPE !!!!
Hi Julie,
I'm sorry to hear that bad news. I think that your biggest problem is your specialist. He has been in too big a hurry all along. Isn't he the one who told you to stop taking budesonide cold turkey? Now he wants you to wean off the cortisol too fast. People who have microscopic colitis often have problems with adrenal fatigue because of the MC, so they have to be treated much more carefully. He obviously doesn't understand that.
I hope your next test result is better.

Hi Tex,
I will know more tomorrow afternoon.
It does seem as though everybody is rushing me into stopping the cortisone. My doc said that it has to ga relatively fast because the adrenals could become even more lazy if it takes you too long to stop cortisone.
I talked to my doc and said this: if this isn't working, I will see someone specialised in adrenal insufficincy.
Thank you all for your kind words. Meanwhile: I am very tired, aggressive, I have constipation and then a very bad case of D the next day, ... I feel liek my whole personality is changing. It's so weird. I used to be such a nice young woman, now I can't stop snapping at people and I have the urge to hit something. I am angry almost all the time. This worries me. This is not who I am.

Julie,
Your low cortisol level is what makes you aggressive. It is proof that your cortisol level is too low. Another thing that can cause aggressive behavior is a potassium deficiency, but unless you have been suffering from dehydration, the problem in your case is almost surely due to a low cortisol level. If you want to read more about it, here is a link to some research on the topic:

Hi Tex,
Thanks for the info.
So, today I bring better news. I am still on 6 mg a day, and my level raised to 15.4. It isn't a huge change, but at least there is a change. This should probably proove that my doctor weaned the cortisone to fast. I have to take the 6 mg for a pretty long time now. Hopefully, it's not for life because honestly, I would have a lot of trouble combining the two diseases together.

Julie, I disagree — I think that's a big improvement, especially since you didn't increase your dosage. Things are finally beginning to go your way, and that's really good news.

Hi everybody,
GREAT NEWS!!!!!
Two weeks ago I went to see a specialist in addisson's disease. I had to do a bloodtest to test my cortisol levels and my ACTH. I had to take my cortisone on Monday morning. Tuesday morning was the bloodtest. There were 27 hours in between. My cortisol levels were normal and my ACTH was perfect. This means that I don't need the hydrocortisone anymore, since hydrocortisone only works for about 4 hours. This means my adrenal glands woke up and work again.
Today is the first day without hydrocortisone. I am afraid to have withdrawal symptoms. The specialist told me that I couldn't have withdrawal symptoms, since I am producing enough cortisol. The withdrawal symptoms are actually your adrenal glands that don't produce cortisol.
I went from 10mg to 5mg for two days, and now none. I told him that I was afraid that it was going so fast, last time this caused the addisson disease. He explained to me that if I would take the cortisone much longer, my adrenal glands would stop producing cortisol again, now they are working and they aren't lazy anymore.
This is great. I am finally done with cortisone. It took me 1 year to get off Budenofalk and 6 months to get of the hydrocortisone.
I feel so much better! I even go to the gym now. I couldn't do any physical exercise and now here I am, working out in the gym.
Thank you for all your support. Remember, when you take cortisone for longer then 3 weeks: wean it off.
Happy grts
