Vitamin Supplements

Post by JeanIrene »

I need to replenish my vitamins. Does anyone have any thoughts on what brands are the highest quality and which supplements are important with MC? I've seen some posts where D and B complex are helpful. Any thoughts about others, dosage, etc?

Doctors seem to recommend Carlson. I like Procaps (Andrew Lessman). His stuff has no fillers and allergans and it's made in the US; they're also all green. I've also had good luck with Vitacost products. GNC is another that has tight controls on their products.

MZH, what all do you take and for what, if you don't mind me asking. ;)

Oh boy, this could be embarrassing. Solaray Vitamin Ester C 500mg for immune system; Vitamin B complex 100 mg - Vitacost brand - I feel better when I take it than when I don't; Healthy Hair, Skin, and Nails and Ultimate Eye Support, both from Procaps, Vitamin D 4-8,000 and Salmon Oil 1,000 - Carlson Labs. These are all one a day.

I take one Solaray HCL with Pepsin with each meal, except on those rare occasions when I have a salad; luckily, salads are agreeing with me nowadays.

I weaned myself very slowly off Entocort and have been off it since 1/7 b/c I was getting extremely constipated and still am to some degree.

I took L-Glutamine (up to 3000 mg a day) from March 2012 through October. I started getting very gassy and couldn't figure out why; stopped it and it was greatly reduced so I guess that was it.

Most importantly, I take only capsules. I used to find tablets in the toilet and now I don't. But then I don't have D anymore so maybe they're hidden better. LOL

Sounds like you are doing pretty well mzh! Congrats. I find D, B, and salmon oil helpful. Just amke sure you look at the inactive ingredients.

I too stopped taking L-glutamine and feel better for it. When I seem a bit"slow", I just need to add a bit of fiber and I'm good ( like beans or salad)

Funny, I was just thinking about needing more fiber. Not used to being constipated. Salad sounds like a good lunch for tomorrow :)

Thanks, Gabe. I'm learning so much here. Didn't realize there was a sublingual D-3. And I noticed B-12 was not on your list.

I get good sources of B vitamins through my eating plan.

as i figured out what i could eat and couldnt eat, first 6 months after Dx, i then set up an excel spreadsheet and analysed the nutrient content of the food items I was eating. If i have three serves of good proteins per day, i get more than enough (being fish, beef, lamb, eggs)

every second weekend, i do up a big pot of stew, this is using grassfed locally raised and butcher meats, it is a mix of 2 parts lamb, 1 part beef, 3/4 part pork, 3/4 part chicken, i slow cook it with my best settling veges and my home made stock.
I have this for two meals every day.
