My dog is gluten free!
I have two dogs, one's a picky eater, the other will devour anything set in front of her.
The picky eater, Gabby, always hated dry food, no matter how I many brands I would try.
About two months ago, she began getting D. It was not fun. She would pant, whine, and our emergency walks were....well, let's say, interesting.
Vet wanted her on doggie Flagyl. I said no way.
So, I took her dry away, giving her organic chicken broth, organic chicken, beef, turkey and rice.
Guess what.
Gabby loves her food. No more D. Has more energy than I've ever seen. I can hardly keep up with her walks.
I placed my other dog on this new diet too. Dixie is showing signs of weight loss (she needed it) and more energy too.
Although it costs a lot more, it is so worth it! Love my dogs and are awesome security!

Growing up on a farm, one of the things you can't help but notice, is that as a general rule, most animals recognize when a food is making them sick, and they try to avoid it. Human's, on the other hand, seem to crave such foods even more.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
You are so right, Tex! I completely ignored Gabby's turning up her nose, thinking she was a picky eater! Little did I know. I feel bad, mixing her dry with meat, which literally forced her to eat her meal or go hungry.tex wrote:Growing up on a farm, one of the things you can't help but notice, is that as a general rule, most animals recognize when a food is making them sick, and they try to avoid it. I am making up for lost time. Nothing but the best for her now.

Hi, Years ago when buying cat food I looked at the ingredients and was surprised that gluten was used. In the food that had gravy it was the second ingredient. Then, I looked at the others and they all had wheat in them. No wonder my cat had health issues. But is was too late to change the foods. Jon
I'm trying to visualize the logic used to justify the addition of "gravy" to a feline ration. No wild cat ever had gravy with it's meals, that's for sure. Ditto for canines.

HI Mandy,
I put my former dog on an all meat diet when he developed a serious autoimmune disease. He loved it and lived happily 7 more years. I had done a lot of research back then and came to believe that dogs should have no grains at all in their diets. I know of a poodle who was diagnosed with MC and put on Entocort. The D cleared after I recommended to the owner to avoid all grains.
For mzh - they do make all-meat/fish dog biscuits. Of course, they are more expensive than the standard ones.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Polly, yes, I would like to know what brand of biscuits you use.
I have an Irish Wolfhound and a Catahoula Leopard dog. Neither small, lol!
And Tex, gravy is so weird for animals. About three years ago, a manufacturer made dog gravy. It came in a ketchup type container.
Tried it once. Both dogs threw it up. Not available in the stores anymore. I wonder why?

My dog has been grain free for a number of years. Locally, a dog trainer has a radio show on which she always asks what people are feeding their dogs. She wrote a cook book for dogs, which I purchased last year. My dog eats some grain free dry in the morning and my cooked food at night ( chicken with rice or yams and vegetables) Macy the dog loves this food and actually lost some weight since we started.
The dog trainer says that most dog food you can purchase at the grocery store is full of carbohydrates and is as addictive as crack for dogs. I only go to a quality pet food store that is locally owned. I buy dried sweet potato slices and lamb lung as a treat for my big dog. She gets a raw beef knuckle bone once a week that works to clean her teeth.
Everybody should check labels carefully for ingredients and source country. We have plenty of food in the USA. There is no reason to purchase food for dogs that comes from China. Too many animals have been poisoned by cheap food from China.
