Does anyone else have heightened sense of taste?
I wonder what is the reason for this. I always loved food, but I can't believe how much better food tastes since my diagnosis a month ago, especially protein. Might be the body's way of telling me I need to eat certain foods? Has anyone else experienced this?
I've always been a "super taster," someone who appreciates the smaller hints of flavor in foods, even bland-seeming foods. My husband, on the other hand, needs serious spices and salt to think a food has any taste at all. I think I've read that some people simply have more taste buds.
On the other hand, since gluten stimulates your opiate receptors, it makes you crave more gluten- ontaining foods. Same probably goes for casein and glutamate-containing foods. Once you've detoxed from those pseudo-dependencies, maybe your body is more open to enjoy the flavors of real food?

Yes, and there are some foods that I normally could have eaten that I find absolutely repugnant. Smells are that way too.
Yesterday I had a salad for the first time since September. I appreciated each leaf like it was made of gold! Seems the things that I have started to experiment and add back into my diet I just love! I still crave dairy like crazy., which tells me how dependent I really was on it.

I am more appreciative of what I can eat. A GF pizza or a plate of roasted veggies is such a treat that I silently send up a prayer ... "thanks for this food"! I'm looking at my food pantry as half full not half empty.
Jane: I too am amazed at the things I used to stock up on that I know longer care for. Now I walk right by them. It's like I have this faded memory of how good they used to taste. A tinge of nostalgia for the good old days? Except I realize now how badly I treated my gut back then out of pure ignorance. By that I mean, convenient processed foods.
