Lesley, with Jane. The Meloxicam is almost surely the cause of your Flare.
For anyone who has an IBD, NSAIDs stimulate the production of inflammatory leukotrienes in the intestines. In fact, I wonder if the Meloxicam could be at least part of the reason why your knee is so inflamed. Unfortunately, nothing is simple when we have MC.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Yikes!!! Think you two are probably right. Icing the knee as instructed and taking the occasional Tylenol for pain, but it doesn't help with inflammation. I see the orthopedist on Friday. Maybe I'll skip the Meloxicam tomorrow and see what happens. My knee doesn't resemble anything close to an actual knee at this point, and I have bruising all the way down my shin. The PT warned me the bruising was likely to migrate. What a domino effect!!

Hi Leslie,
Just was thinking about you. How are you doing? Are you off the anti-inflammatories? Still flaring? I hope you are seeing some improvement. It sure would be nice if we could take something that reduced inflammation that wouldn't cause us gut issues...ugh...really bites. I hope you are getting around better.
Take care,
Terri

Hi Terri
I am hanging in there. My knee is still horribly swollen, but I'm not taking any meds, just doing my PT three times per week and icing it a lot. I am seeing improvement, so hopefully it will resolve with time. The D finally went away so that is something major to be thankful for :)
How are you doing? Are you fully recovered?

Well "yay" for no D! That couldn't have been fun trying to get to rush to the bathroom with a bum knee. Glad to hear you are improving. I'm assuming you must not have much pain with it to go without meds. Hang in there!
I'm doing very well thank you. Fully recovered from my little surgery....get the big hysterectomy in June. But no cancer so very happy. This next surgery is supposed to be a 4 to 6 week healing time and I'm to anticipate some pain this time. Ugh....as I got lucky this last time and didn't have to take painkillers. I freak over any pill these days that I'm not used to taking.
Take care of that knee and I pray the swelling goes away soon!

Terri, that is such good news! What a relief for you. I don't envy you the hysterectomy, but I had that done 16 years ago and it wasn't so bad. I think it is 6 weeks to a full recovery, but I was up and around much sooner than that. The thing I remember most was being awfully tired. Sleep is the best thing for your recovery.
Some days are better than others in terms of my knee pain. It is really hurting tonight, but I had pretty aggressive physical therapy yesterday so it's probably from that. I'm a bit worried because they removed 50% of the meniscus, which is the "cushion" for your knee. There is no fix or replacement part, so I fear I may have chronic pain, in which case I will have to consider a knee replacement sooner than later. From what I've heard, joint replacement surgery is so much more effective now than it was 10 or 20 years ago. But I'm trying to stay positive and do everything they tell me to do in PT and stay hopeful that it will resolve.
Feel free to PM me after your surgery if you need to talk to someone who can relate :)

Hey Leslie...sorry about the pain. I have knee issues (tilted knee cap) but can't imagine the kind of pain you are experiencing. I only get pain if I do lunges or squats. So I've given those up! I don't do stairs that great either.
My sister-in-laws Dad had knee replacement surgery a long time ago in both knees and he is so glad he did. He is still doing quite well. I do hope you won't need it and like you said...resolves and gets better on its own.
As for my hysterectomy, I'm told I won't even be staying overnight....WTH!! It's just so minor these days. My uncle's girlfriend had one last May and she hardly had any pain and was up and fine within a day or two. I'm totally blown away by that. Luckily my ovaries will stay. They are doing it laparoscopy (sp?) so don't know what that all entails just yet. Time to research!!
Feel better!
