What to reduce first--Pepto or entercort
First, yay! Yay! Yay! I am on the verge of C. ;) I've been working on getting better since Oct, and currently am on 6 mg of budesonide (3 mg down from my previous dose) and 4 Peptos a day. This has been working great, but, and soon, might begin to work too well. ;) So, my Q is, what would I reduce first--the Pepto or entercort. Honestly, a 3mg reduction of the budesonide would equal a $300 p/mth reduction in med bills. ;) But if that's not what's best for my gut, then I know it'll be more expensive long term.
(And the nausea is way, way down. Now only occasional instead of chronic. Cause for yet another Snoopy Dance, right? :) )

Congrats Jennifer! You are on your way :)
It's hard to say which drug you should lower, but I believe it's the Budesonide that brings on the c ( and because it's a steroid I would think you'd WANT to be off it), but I'm only saying that because that's what happened to me. If you do decide to wean down, do it slowly ( 2 one day- 1 the next) until you are comfortably down to 3 mg a day..... On the other hand, I believe the experts only want you on Pepto for about 3 months and I was on a low dose of Budesonide up to 6 months. Of course it's your decision.
Again, congratulations
Leah

Hi Jennifer,
It's always nice to see good news. Of course, we're all different, but if I were in that situation, I would probably reduce the budesonide dosage. However, if you have been taking 8 or 9 Pepto tablets for 8 weeks or longer, you may need to reduce that dosage also or instead.
For some of us, an antihistamine helps to prevent nausea.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Awesome news Jennifer! I too agree with Leah and Tex and would SLOWLY decrease the budesonide.JenniferS wrote:First, yay! Yay! Yay! Jennifer,
I "achieved" constipation with Pepto. Never took budesonide. I am still constipated after being off the Pepto since January 6. I guess it could be part of the MC and I may have just switched over to constipation because of that. It is so hard to know how to find some balance. I really would like not to have either. I think it is all part of the healing and I am hoping that soon, I will "achieve" Norman. May the same be true for you!

Constipation was never part of my vocabulary when discribing myself before this. A brand new experience. Since I am traumatized from having had diarrhea for so long I hesitate to do too much eating of veggies that have in the past caused problems (D) for me. I have tried salad though and I was amazed that it did NOT "move" things on thru. I keep experimenting but am being cautious.
